Can't go wrong with HK retracts. They are cheap and they work.

need to switch to electric retracts like you guys. the large metal gear servo i used on mine here still broke even with liberal amount of lube on retracts, careful geometry in links, and radio programming on whole actuation system.

Mine is more hacked out lol. Servo less make it very easy to do with no setup . I did have some servo less retract fail but that was a early model and I think they have been improved since then. |

Hi Lentar,
I'd suggest using EP9050 (9 x 5) with the motor, 2212 1200KV, that you mentioned, however, EP1060 (10 x 6) might be better for the diameter of its cowl. Be reminded to apply good throttle management on it if you'd prefer using EP1060 instead. But it's quite easy and cheap finding out a 2215 900 or 1000 KV motor from online stores though. Chen |

First and foremost ,,,,Thank you all for sharin your experiences with this model. It's never too late to build and fly such a classic as this bird is, especially as modded and well done as some of yours are.
I model on a tight budget so when Calibre ( my local GWS warehouse outlet) had a warehouse moving sale last July I gota couple of the FW 190 EPS glider kits. Amongst about 40 other kits . LOL And I really got a good deal on mine. They were on pallets of incomplete kits and I stole them for $5. ea. Both kits are missing the cowls but to a many year R/C er and scratch builder and repair guru like me and most of you that aint nuttin. I found a large size Clorox Disinfecting Wipes bottle to be an almost exact correct circumference as the fuse. And then I've hot wire cut and sanded some 1.5 inch Dow Blue Core for the front radius and heres how she looks on this rainy build day. |

I cant tell ya how anxious i was for that wipes bottle to get empty. And since my wife doesnt house clean much i was using em for everything. No not for T P but i zure thought about it.Anyway last week i found a smaller size container on the roadway , yes i went back to get it, wouldnt you? And i crammed the remaining ones into the smaller container so i could build this beautiful bird.
Right now my DIY cowl is 6 inches total length and i know its too long. Could someone please please measure their stock one so i have a reference to go by. However because i like to keep em light and someday in the future i might fly this as a scale slope plane i might just keep my cowl long and mount a smaller lighter motor out front a bit. And i might even put the battery in the cowl too. Heres some pics |

Are you laughing and shaking your head yet.
I think ,IMO a 39 oz auw. Is a little heavy for this wing area and im hoping to keep it under 30 oz. Im thinking of trying a Cermark 2812 840 kv and if it gets hot turning a 10 6 3 ill have to go 2 cells. |

Yeah a 10 6 3 prop looks about as small as you would want to go. And check out my F W 190 choice for a spinner. The bottom of a small plastic Easter egg. Of course I dont know about the pink color. But maybe Rietchmarrshall Goering would like it. History says towards the end of his career he got pretty messed up on drugs and I heard a rumor that he liked to wear womens clothing at some pretty wild drunken celebration parties that he hosted. Ahh I guess thats what happens to celebrities.
You should be ROTFLMAO by now |

ah , Im gonna keep it 6 inches. I weighed the bare airframe and was pleased to see it at 12.9 oz. So with light equipment and power system , very light coat of Acrylic W B craft smart cheepo paint I might be able to get it in the air at 26 -29 oz. You cant beat the way a light war bird flys. Ahhhh If there is such a thing.
Hmmmm, Lets see #1 Takeoff the stock landing gear and hand launch it . Save 10 grams. #2 Fly it on a 1000 ma 3s li-po . Save 30 grams #3 Paint it in Hartmann winter camo scheme . Save 5 grams. #4 Carve away all un necessary foam in the fuse . Save 3 grams. #5 Make it Elevator and Aileron only save another 6 grams. LOL I know you're probably thinking who is this alpea AH and why does he think he knows anything about this model. Well pilgrim I will admit to being a bit confused when it comes to knowing what women are, think and do . But when it comes to model aircraft I am light years ahead of conventional thinkers. Take for example my first scratch built multi rotor

What an unpainted stock cowl looks like
Here's a pic I took of a out of the box stock one at the Caliber warehouse . And my 6 inch long cowl doesnt look that much longer than this .

The final shaping , trimming , and mounting of my DIY cowl was way more involved than the 8 bucks to buy a stock one... LOL
DIE cowl would be a better label. But I got it and it looks sweet. Now to test fire up my power system and see if I can get 500 watts. Of warbird Go Power to fly my 30 oz. FW 190 with enthusiasm. As we all know when you are talkin flyability all the B S in the world wont do the job. Because thanks to Mr. Owms we have to measure our power out put in good old WATTS. And I will be very happy with 250 + watts per pound. Matter of fact I wont use that motor if it wont give a reliable 500 watts. Considering I've been doing Electric R/C for about 16 years and I have about a hundred motors laying around here I'm sure I'll find the Goldilocks power plant. |
