Nice looking plane Robert! I hope to get out this month and give it a try. I'll probably fly my Koleos 1.8 M (mod. w/spoilers) 3S2100, sp400 w/4.5:1 and an 11 X 8 prop. AUW is about 22oz.

Hello Robert,
Warm up yet? Not here, and it is still snowing....

Actually the motor I have been using in my Omega is a DIY, CD ROM Stator Triple built from parts a local friend of mine has machined. The first picture shows it in the Omega, the second shows the motor disassembled, the third picture shows the triple motor in the middle, the double on the left and the single on the right. The triple motor is very impressive and is equivalent in size to the Axi 2212 series (I didn't scrape the coating from my stators, so it measures 13mm long, by 22mm in diameter). Would this be legal?

I fly this motor with a 3S TP2100 lipo and a 12x6 folder and it really does quite well.

The other motors I was thinking about where the new Scorpion motors (http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com), I have a 2215 that I've shown a picture of on my test stand, these are nice motors, very smooth and good performer. They also have two 2212 motors (different winds -22 and -26)

My point was by using bell dimensions, there may be some question as to which are ok to use since there is some variation on the end bell designs. Maybe it is better to use the stator size (like Axi 2212 or a CDR triple which is about a 2213 sized stator), or the flux ring dimensions (in the picture of the Scorpion or Axi, it is the black part) to define the upper limit.

If you don't think my CDRom motor qualifies, I'll continue to use the brushless handicap.

Oh BTW, that is a beautiful plane, what is it and is it available here in the States yet?

Regards,
-Eric

Is the Axi you are using the 2808/16 ? What battery and how many cells.

Hi Eric,

I would have to say under the current rules, the Scorpion 2215, would have to large of a bell size, but I am guessing. What is the bell size for your triple stator motor?

I understand your thinking on the stator size, but I was looking for an external measurement, that would be simple to make. I have a feeling keeping ahead of small outrunners offerings could be a full time job.

The Scorpion looks like an excellent motor with 250W available with just more than 2.0oz in weight. Great price.

Hi Robert,
I've included a picture of my triple next to an Axi 2212/34. You can see the flux rings are almost identical in length (Axi = 15mm, my motor 16mm). The Axi bell is longer (23mm) than my bell (22mm proper--since mine has a built-in prop adapter on that side). I guess by that comparison it might just make it. What do you think?

You are right keeping up with outrunner offerings will be awful hard to do.

Yes the Scorpions are nice motors, with all the accessories provided and performance, they are definitely a good buy. I look forward to trying it on my Omega as well, actually I look forward to Spring when my fingers won't freeze while flying....

Regards,
-Eric

Hi folks,
I'll be flying my Nano Fling, which is new combination of old parts. Nano Floh fuse and a GP Fling wing. 120cm span, 400 grammes, SP400 6V, 6x3 folder and 3 lipos. Many Amps! My old 3xETEC1250 pack is now working as TX pack since it can't deliver many amps. I guess I overworked it last season.
I will soon have decide if to buy more SP400 motors or if to switch to outrunners.

Weather permitting, I'll be in with my Poly Pulsar. Hacker B20-12L, 7 cell NiMH. If it looks like a stronger lift day I'll use the Omega II in the outrunner class, Hacker 20-22L, 3S LiPoly.

OK, Ken Rogus (our club Prez) put the bite on me to try it out this month. I was going to wait for warm, but this clown goes ice fishing in sub-zero weather without a hut.

What to fly? It has been so long I may have to go look at what power plant is in what airframe but I think this is right.

Low lift-

Electron with a Cosmotech 20-12 (I think) pushing a 3.3:1 MPX box and a 13X8 on 8XIB1400's.

Weather permitting and having enough guts (probably not).

Super AVA with a Neu 1506 1D on seven IB 4300's and an 18X6.6 RF prop.

Rogie, we got to make up tapes or use a calculator on our 100 pointers!

HI Jack,

It is something to tell the grandkids while you are still young enough, when is your summer F5J event?

Hey there Hi there

I'm going put in with a ship I just maidened today, at this point this ship isn't realy powered at a level were it wouldn't be competative, I just mainly have it set up for lighter weight, and just goofing around in the thermals. When I get my new version of a Electrified Blaster DLG going that will be my F5J machine.

Pike Superior Electro Carbon 68 wing

Neu 1110 2Y

RF 17x6.5

TP 2070 extreme 4cell

79.5oz.

I'm not yet very used to this ship so landing pionts will probably be in short supply, and motor run times will be huge, I might try a couple 30 at seconds if lift is present.

Take care, Ploof
