P-51 Part 2

The Giant P-51 was up again... On landing the pilot flew into some trees. See what happened:

Where is the sight in relation to the parking lot by the daycare? I have been up to that location once. It looks like the spot you are at is near there but different.

PS looks like you had great conditions.

4m ASH-26

Nice 4m Multiplex ASH-26, doing rolls, loops; great flying and landing. Look for the launches during Hi-Start...

joedoe - can you give any details of the hi-start which launched the ASH? i.e. rubber size/type/length

I have Imajinary Airplanes
VincentC ... I am the Pilot and the Hi Start is an "Unlimited" size from Mark Mech at Aerofoam in Washington state, USA. The rubber is 100 feet long in 2 50 foot sections. Rubber Specs are: 1/8"ID x 5/32" Wall thickness.

There are 2 sections of 250 feet line, total 500 feet.

I used the full length of the Hi Start for these launces. this was the first use of the Hi Start and the launces were actually downwind which is one reason the Tail dropped on launch. I think if I could have launched into wind there would be less tail drooping! However, the way the field sets up, I opted for downwind. If the grass was shorter I would have ROG'd the sailplane, this would have been better. Ths was the first flight of a glider this size at this slope.... there will be many more!
The plane weighs 10 1\2 pounds and is more that this Hi Start is rated for but It will do the job at this slope. I plan to try on "flat Land when warmer and a good thermal day. I also plan to experiment with shorter line\rubber combinations as well as into the wind at the slope.
below is a link to Marks' site. you can purchase just the rubber and get the rest of the stuff yourself or, buy the whole "Enchilada" from Mark.

Later ... Dave

ummm 5/32 is .15625

That doesnt leave much room for the .125 dia !!! ( kiddin )

So I check the Mech specs.

I think there is a typo somewhere or it's NEW MATH or or or

soarntz - thanks for that, I also have a Multiplex ASH which I fly off the slope, but when the direction changes I can spend weeks with no flying and so was interested in your launch. I never thought a 4 meter glider would go up an a hi-start.

I have Imajinary Airplanes
VincentC .... I'm hoping it will ROG well enough when it gets warmer and I can thermal fly as well. We also have a guy with a tow plane, so aerotow will be a new adventure. I have no landing gear in mine, how about yoursI think if I moved the Tow Hook position further ahead of the CG it would also be better for this launch position, will try a shorter length first and head towards the slope. If that works then I'll leave towhook alone.
