Sometimes we just shouldn't fly

Last night the breeze was blowing about 5-8mph, so I decided to fly my SB with the Duskstik wing.

Just before I took off I had "the thought", I really shouldn't fly right now.
I took off anyway.

I was flying in front of my house, and there are trees lining my street, which create turbulance. It wasn't too bad climbing out until I got above the trees. It was a gale up there. It was all I could do to not fly backwards.
Every time I throttled down to bring her in, the turbulance would knock me off course and towards a tree.

So I finally get her on some resemblance of final, or more of a controlled vertical drop, using the whole width of the street.
Then we're about 2' off the street, and suddenly she stops bucking and goes into perhaps the most beautiful glid I've ever seen and touches down light as a feather.

WHEW!!!!

That was one of the most exciting flights in a long time.
We're talking white knuckle.

Maybe next time I have "the thought" I'll listen.

Whew, glad to hear I won't be sending you a replacement fuselage. I had a similar experience last night testing a new design. It has a fat wing so is more suseptible to the wind than the Switchback. Whenever I would get it high, it would get tossed around badly. I thought it was the design till I realized how bad the winds were up high. It flew much better this morning.

Doug- I may be ordering a fuse from you soon anyway.
Ever since my lawn dart, my fuse has been about 50/50 CA and balsa from the LE forward.
New design? Any hints?

Any luck getting your site back online?

The IP address changed and the DNS info got messed up. It was fixed yesterday but the change takes a while to get through the internet.

oh i dunno bout that ...i think the zero is pretty easy to fly...when i have a good motor and hot battery pack!!!!

it s just some of those darned landings that get really hard
especially on impact as you witnessed...LMAO!!!!

well i waited long enough..i was evicted from the dining room table to my room (she did clean of the mags from workbench)
so all i have to do is sneak it in

Well I did just order a fuse kit for my switchback and it got me thinking. What is all in a fuse only kit? I hope I still have the plans around here and the instructions too.
