Pushing the Limits of FFF
wirbech's Avatar
I do not have any pics of how I covered the F-22, but I am currently building a 200% F-18 with the same materials. I will take pics of how I use the cloth and poly during that build and post some pics of it. It is pretty simple.

I use light spackle to fill any large gaps and holes and sand it smooth once dry. I then brush on a light coat of the poly and drape the cloth over the foam and add another coat until the cloth is fully coated. Then I let it dry. After I add a second coat of the poly then sand with 300 to 400 grit sand paper. I then brush on a thin coat of baby power mixed with poly to fill in the remaining fabric weave and then a final sanding before a thin coat primer. Once you primer it, you can see the pinholes and spots that you missed and fill them and another thin primer coat, then the final colors. Thats it. No magic here.

EXCELLENT work, smkn! Fantastic looking model. Great job with the shaping, especially.

What scale is that beauty--150%? Good luck on the maiden! Let us know how it goes.

Looking really great Smkn951!

We think a lot alike

I pulled out my old and somewhat beat up 140% Shumate and outfitted the MonsterJet. With some luck I'll get out this afternoon and get some video, although it will probably have to be on a tripod as I doubt I'll get a camera person out in this cold.

Mine came out heavier too... 55oz AUW. Shouldn't be a problem at all though. This one flew great almost 1lb heavier. I did have to rework the motor mount for the monsterjet. The previous mount was way to big and heavy.

Sure looks like a flyer to me. I think I see a hint of FFF, which is what I often use. Thanks for sharing.

Flew the dust off of the raptor... got her dialed in and feeling pretty solid. Didn't have a camera person so I used a tripod. Not sure if I got any decent shots or not. I didn't get to run my third pack through her though... I accidentally pulled one of the wires to the BEC loose. Need to get it reconnected and beefed up a bit.

Need to try some other prop combos. The 7x6 (not an e prop, just one I had around) ran really smoothly but didn't have the thrust I want for this one.

Thanks Steve....but i think that low pass was unintentional.....puckered up really quick on that one...
one thing tho...gotta add another layer underneath, that landing put about an inch hole in the belly...it's only dollar tree foam. single sheet.and it's really soft.
hope to paint it this week.

Chris.....thanks for the props. i had about threee days on it from 0800 till about 2100 hrs for three days working on it.
