Question

Can you provide some resources to learn about gliding of all types but mostly HLG/DLG

I have been flying RC for a few months now. I started with an EasyStar over flat land) that I still like, but it soon found the slopes nearby and now I have been flying my Weasel Pro and EZ* there. I like both planes and both types of flying, but I am interested in also exploring hand/discuss launch to search for thermals or just fly around closer to home.

Is there a good book or web page that gets into the various details of RC gliders in some detail? Both about the planes, the wind, terrain, thermals, waves, etc that can affect and enhance gliding?

I posted this on the main sailplane page and got some good info, but not much about HLG/DLG. I am also wondering about what plane characteristics make it good for gliding, other than the obvious low weight to wing area ratio.

Thanks, Matt

I always recommend Old Buzzard's Soaring Book, by Dave Thornburg.

Paul Naton has a couple of outstanding videos specifically about DLG/HLG.

and just keep reading here. There's a wealth of information posted here daily about every aspect of the sport.

Enjoy!

Funny, I just PMed you regarding your spinner. I did not see this post until now. I would love to see it.

To other contributors, thanks for the links and the book idea. It should keep me busy for awhile
