Help!

Hanger 9, P-40, 60 size. CG

Need a little help in balancing my P-40. Have a Saito 100 in place. Manual states CG with Wheels up is 3" back from leading edge against the fuselage.

I have moved the battery up front over the fuel tank and have added about a quarter-pound of lead up front under the fuel tank. Not enough yet.

Can anyone give me an idea of about how much weight (lead) is needed to balance the P-40 ?

Thanks,
Terry

Sounds to me like something is wrong there, H9 planes balance very well with the recomemded motors,

not being funny but how are you balancing it? on your fingers?, i did this with my P47 and had to put a mass of lead in the nose, when i put it on a balance machine it was far to heavy in the nose and i ended up taking it all out again.

I did purchase a GreatPlanes CG Machine. I have assembled everything - fuel tank in place, battery over fuel tank, Saito 100 w/muffler, 3.25 spinner w/ 14-9 prop. Wheels are in retrack position. Balancing on the new CG machine 3" from leading edge. It will take 7-8 oz of lead to balance. Cowling is in place.

Anybody have any suggestions or comments
Thanks much, Terry

rather than sticking lead in the nose (useless weight) why not use a second battery pack to run the retracts or a 6 volt pack perhaps...
i like to run a seperate battery for the retracts..

Just a thought. Are you flipping it over and balancing it upside down?Isn't that the way that plane is balanced?

pumpkin438....yes I balanced the plane upside-down. Viper427....I will look into going to a 6 volt battery pack. If I want to use a second battery pack for the retract, how do I connect (wire) the second battery pack?

Thanks much, Terry

It's simple enough you will need a "Y" lead, plug your retract servo and retract battery into the "Y" lead, the end that plugs into the reciever need to have the red wire removed, so the retract battery is only powering the retract servo and not the reciever...

someone has posted a pic of this set up, will see if i can find it for you.
