In the interest of saving bandwidth here; here is a link to my progress on the B-29 so far. Gonna cut out the wing for the gear blocks next.

{edit URL to the right one}

And yet another ? The joiner wire for the elevator... How did you guys do this? The wood is only 1/8" and I was planning on using 1/8 Misic wire or 1/8" dowel, so how to add the spacer aft the main stab? Just mount seperatly?

Also for those who have a working rudder. How did you do the linkage? I see no real way of doing it without it looking really out of place.

Thanks in advance.

That B-29 sounds a lot like a Slow Stik.

Sounded a lot like a Slow Stick to me too...

I played around a bit and found the thread on his club web site and then the photo album page. The album page is the later address...

I used no rudder on mine but as far as the elevator...

I cut the 1/8th thick elevators so the joiner wire would lay in place flush, top and bottom, then ca'd it in place. I then ca'd a Sig ( CA Hinge ) on top and under each of these areas to reinforce the area. It has held up perfectly.
Originally, in the Titanic kit, the joiner wire was glued to the bottom of the elevator halves and a bit of fiberglass cloth was epoxied over the area. Either way, there is a spacer / filler behind the joiner wire so all parts fit smooth.

Thanks for the info on joining the elevator halves. I was wondering how it all fit. I take it the rear filler piece is seperate, and not part of the main stab.

OOPS looks like I posted the wrong link... Must not have copied and pasted old clipboard contents. Will change.

Yes..it is a seperate piece after the joiner. I may or may not have a decent pic of it on my B-29 site. I don't recall at the moment.

Kevin;
I got the foam from Dennis. There is a discussion mid way through the thread on this. The foam was rough in a few spots, and the wing isn't exactly the right size, but it was WAY better than I could have ever done, and the price was right. All in all I am very pleased with them. I Really don't like working with foam, but this seemed like too good of a project to pass up. BTW, the plans show the templates if you want to cut yourself.

Randy, I checked your site, nice pics, but didn't see anything on the elevator joining rod. I'll just join like you described earlier. THANKS

Elevator joiner wire

I am using 3/32" music wire rather than 1/8". There is no need for 1/8" wire in 1/8 balsa. I suspect 1/16 music wire would be enough or possibly 4-40 pushrod material.

Elevator joiner

1/16" music wire is what I intended on the plans. If you're real careful, you can drill into the edge of the elevator for this. Put your fingers on each side of the elevator so you can feel if you are getting too close to one surface or the other.

If any of you builders have any coments on the plans or the assembly sequence, please let me know. I'm working on a construction article for one of the paper mags, and I'm interested in any improvements or suggestions.

Thanks,

-Jim

Thanks for the picture album rcav8r2. Made it up to the museum last week to check out BOCKSCAR. Pretty neat... Jim... is there any time line when the nose piece and engine cowls maybe shipping? I hope to have the B29 up and flying when the weather breaks next month.

Great shot of Bockscar, Tom. I got through to my silent partner a week ago, and he starting to work on them. I hope to get parts within a month. I have another 25 sets coming, so this should last a while, but not too long I hope.
