Fixed gear flight report

Got to test the B-29 today on fixed gear. It was raining and windy but I was sick of waiting on the weather all these weeks.

She went straight down the runway, cross wind and all she was easy to keep straight. She took off after just smooth and nice. Flew great!

On landing the wind was crossed more than on take off. Having the rudder I slipped her in for a very nice landing. No bounce. Then I got to taxi back, what a rush.

I'll have her at the meet this Sunday.

Now that there are foam plugs might there be a glass 29 soon?

Maybe,

We are working on the plug slowly as I have to finish the TA-183 project first. It is being worked on.

I have a white foam plug in the process. I plan to add a scale tail with the gunner compartment.

Scale nacelles and all the other vacuum formed bits. It will take awhile.

Okay Steve!
If you're going to make a glass version of the '29, then you might as well make a few other pieces for this plane too for a different change of pace.
You know me! I love the unusual!

Actually, when you do decide to come out with the glass fuse, I will build the TU-4 AEW. Just not as big as Dave and George's

Perry, I have a couple of friends that are into slope soaring. They have both flown me electric version and have a fit over it. They think it would be very good on the slope.
It is possible that I will have another set of wing cores cut to the airfoil coordinates that they spew at times. ( I don't have a clue when they get into all of that! ).
Wilson Lake, here in Kansas, has a pretty large slope meet every year and is only a couple of hours from here. My idea is to have something different for them to fly for that event.
All just ideas but thats where I'm heading.

OK boys and girls, came home from work today and the plans and parts were sitting on my doorstep! Woohah! Now to clear off my workbench and fire up my cutting bow....
The vacuum formed nacelles look good, and the nose looks GREAT!
Now for some questions-
How fast does she fly? Scale-like, faster than scale, ludicrous speed?
With the clear nose the cockpit begs to be detailed. Anyone have some good pics of the full size or links to share?

Jim, I noticed that the wing templates were generated with compufoil..what airfoil is it, and have you experimented with other ones? Just curious.

Pics of the completed model will be posted, of course. Might take a while though, I'm a slow builder

Look back a few pages and you will see some pics I posted of the full size bird. Also Steve Neill posted some pics of the nose of his '29.

Also, she flies a bit faster than scale but looks really cool in the air.

Hi Rusty,

The airfoil is a true Clark-Y, and it is the only one I considered. If you were going to turn this into a slope soarer, you might want to try something else, but for just tooling around the field, the Clark-Y should be fine.

FYI... I have about 6 sets of parts left for this bird. I've broken even between the plans and parts sales in case any of you thought I'm getting rich doing this. When these are gone, I'll see if there is interest in more. Parts are $30/set plus shipping, and plans are $20.00 shipped in the US. I can accept PayPal (not credit cards), checks, or M.O. Thanks to everyone who has ordered and paid promptly.

-Jim
