Build off: Dewoitine D-520
Hi all
I allready started on plans for a Dewoitine when I read about the contest. Since I planned to build this plane in the spring of this year, why not for a contest then? So, a Dewoitine D-520. For the people not familiar with this plane, this was the best French fighter aircraft at the beginning of WWII. They didn't had enough of these planes to hold off the Luftwaffe, and after the Germans had overtaken France, the Luftwaffe used the D-520 as a trainer. The French Vichy forces used D-520 in north Africa and in some other places arround the mediteraniean. D-520's were also used by the Bulgarian and Italian air forces. My model will be at 1/9 scale, giving a wingspan of 1.13 m (+/- 44 inch). Construction will be allmost all wood. Power will be provided by a chinese axi2820 clone or something like that on a 3s1p flightpower 3700 mah pack. Controls will be the motor, aileron, elevator and rudder. I drew a 3D model in rhino, starting from drawings from here http://www.airwar.ru/other/drawe.html. Then I started cutting this 3D model in pieces to get a plan. This is how far I am now. Enjoy the pics @ all other people in the contest, SUCCES! I hope some nice models come out of this @ the contest organization; thank you for doing this Greetings Tom |

Good for you! it's a machine with a great deal of visual appeal, though reputedly tricky in the air, and when it comes to the view over the nose it makes a Spitfire look like a Piper Cub! Great looking aeroplane, dramatic and racy.

Indeed she looks fantastic. I just love fighterplanes with long noses. Thats why I chose it
![]() @ griffin; my aim is to get it at approximatly the same weight as the balsacraft planes. I have a little less wing area, but I'll put in more power so, this shouldn't be a problem. And with the lipos and brushless setup I will gain some weight on a brushed setup. Probaly it will be possible to fly it on a lighter setup, but I like them as they go FAST! Grtz Tom |

The Dewoitine will be hand or bungee launched and it will land on its belly/ventral radiator. T |

CAD plan is ready, all pieces are drawn.
Now I need to do some nesting for lasercutting, making tags to all the pieces etc. The CAD plan will also be converted to illustrator, so I can make annotations. Grtz Tom |

Interesting apperance. Looks like a P40 tail, grafted onto a Yak3.
Can't say I remember seeing one before. Nice to do the less common subjects. Bill |
