Hard disk motor conversion

Hi All:

I've read the CDROM motor conversion thread with great interest. I'm starting to convert a 9 pole hard disk motor, bigger than the CDR motors. Has anybody else done this? Any reason not to?

These messages are about 12-pole stator motors built from a hard-disk:

Thanks Ron!

I took apart three disks, and one older one had a very nice motor already equipped with 3 wires. On a whim, I hooked it up to an ESC, and it spun right up - I just need to rewind it to bring the torque and RPM up.

My only dead CDROM was an HP CDRW, which had a 6 pole motor rather than a 9 pole, so I hunted until I found a 9 pole.

A 6-pole stator will work with 4 or 8 magnetpoles.
