Easy build Ultimate

Hi guys, just wanted to share a cheap and easy build that flies so great my mate built one too.....and everyone who sees it fly wants to know where they can buy one.

It all started with me building a little depron Ultimate with similar dimensions to the Eflite Ultimate FX 3D. (I couldn't justify spending my hard earned cash on a polystyrene kit.) It flew even better than my mate's original one, so I decided to build a bigger one out of 10mm polystyrene sheet.

The lower wing is reinforced with a 6mm dowel, the wing braces are 1.5mm dowels and all other wing joiners and struts are regular bamboo skewers.
Ally landing gear with polystyrene wheel pants. Recycled canopy.

Wingspan: 1000mm
Fuse length: 1095mm
AUW (without lipo): 724g

I will post PDF plans and explain the how to's soon. I will also post a video of both birds in action when I get the video file from my mate.

Here's a layout of what the basic pieces are that you will need and a pic of how the fuzz comes together from the canopy to the vertical stab. I cut a groove out of the two fuzz panels (halfway through) so I could bend the two sides together.
The join was taped to keep it together while the glue dried.

Yes, right there.

That's a cool bipe you've got there!
Another full fuse design can only be a good thing :-)
Got a flight report?

Thanks SpleenRippa... as far as a flight report goes; it's maiden flight was a joke. I have made loads of scratch build poly planes (from other guy's designs to my own) and not one of their maiden flights was as perfect as this "Big Ultimate". It's like flying a sim, only better! With almost zero trimming needed. No joke...

It takes to the sky in about six feet of runway. It tracks straight and level at full throttle and with a bit of tweaking the trust angle with a washer or two under the motor mount it pulls vertical in a straight line too.
Inverted flight is a breeze, flipping the plane takes no effort and keeping it level at any speed requires none to hardly any forward elevator.
Knife edge can be accomplished at slow to medium speeds but it doesn't like high speed.....otherwise it can handle anything you throw at it, but it's party trick is hovering!! In calm conditions this bird will hover like it's been pinned to the sky...awesome.
Landing it is a piece of cake, it can fly amazingly slow without any sign of stalling, you can land this baby in the same six feet you took off from.
Flying this plane is a pleasure....

I've posted a video of my monsters flying...well hovering mostly.
Excuse the quality, my mate gave it to me as a wmv and I had to convert it to mp4.

I took your file and sized it to your 39"WS or 1000mm's and tiled it. It comes out on 64 sheets if you'd like I can post it here so that it will make things a tad more simple for folks just cut and tape and you have templates.

Here I hope you don't mind but now whomever wants to build it doesn't have to sit and measure it all out, they can print, cut, and tape then you have the right sized templates to use.
