I havent try it yet, i altered a little the original plans and i think i made it a bit havier, i didnt have EPP sheet so i used some common polysterine, 1cm and 0.5 cm! For the electronics i used 1200 kv 150 w brushless motor(turnigy) , 1800 mah 3 sells lipo battery 15 c, 3x9g servos and a 30 A speed controller! Do you believe it will fly?! give me an answer please!

I also want to know what motor should i buy to make the plane move faster, i want a motor with more power but i dont know how the motors are comparable! Could someone help me?! What measures should i use to Compare motors and how do i do that?!

Build to Fly? FLY to BUILD!

How much does it weigh?

With the right prop it will fly, but maybe not well, and it might be brittle, other than that it looks pretty solid.

If you're going to build another, try dollar store foam sheet or depron if it's available, EPP is probably the best for this plane, but I didn't/don't have any
Do you have other planes?

No i dont have any other planes, this is my first one, the planes weights less than a kilo. Hope it flies, i will try it tomorrow if the wind is ok and i will post the results

i tried flying it but as i calculated, it was to heavy and it kept falling down. In the future a will probably build a new one less heavier

Right. And I really want to say that this is a bad first plane. It is designed for 3d, so it will naturally be unstable.

I suggest either buying a high winged trainer plane, or building one.
With sheet foam (the cheapest is the dollar store one) it gives an all around lighter airframe, with less "spare" mass.

Have a look at these, they are fairly reputable trainer planes:

And feel free to jump into a thread and ask if the plane is good for a beginner
Most will be happy to help.
And have a look at the Foamies(Scratchbuilt) section, they have quite a bit of useful information there on building with foam.

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread but what would be a good aileron trainer for indoor (small hall) that could be scratch built quickly.

I have become a bit bored with my Ember2 flying indoors

I have a AR6400 receiver spare as a start.

You can basicaly mod any 3 channel trainers for ailerons, and most scale down well.
The only one I've looked into is the aileron wing for the, but you can add them to any model you want with the addition of a servo and control rods like this one

I know its been a while since anyone posted here, but a minor update.

I have moved the location of the plans to a different website - the link on the first page of this thread has been updated, but here it is again anyway:
Silentmite Plans

I know plenty of people still download these plans (I can see from the website stats) - I will be keeping them online in this new location for years to come.

Any old links to the old location will be automatically redirected to the new Silentmite plans page.

hi there
i want to build a silent might scaled up to 40 in with a airfoil wing. i gather that i should leave the skin long and adjust on the plane but are there any other suggestions?
Soundman, may i have the mostly finished airfoil 34in plans?
i wonder how mutch foam i should have on hand(24/48 sheets)?

I'll try to find the file at the weekend & see what state its in. If it looks ok I would only be able to provide it in the state that its currently in with no instructions etc.

No idea on the materials off the top of my head.

Hi Mattnat,
I once blew up the plans and had an EPP wing core for an airfoil, it flew well and was a real floater, I had to retire it after 3 years, took a lot of beating, if I had to do it again I would make it smaller wing span and beefier motor.
Here's the link to the pics I posted a few years back.

Forgot to add: Exceed RC Optima 480 Series motor - 910 Kv 250W 11x3.8 prop 2200 Lipo

Almost finished a 30 inch wingspan version made from DTF and hot glue. I love the way the rounded fuselage fits together. I trimmed the rudder & elevator slightly and tapered the alierons. All that's left is mounting the 2208 1100 kV motor.

Got mine done. Came in at 5.9 ounces without battery. Hovers a little less than 1/2 throttle. Should be a fun plane! I'm surprised thre isn't more interest in this one!

I understand this is intended to be a 3d plane and inherently unstable, but I am getting older and have to admit I'm not as sharp as I used to be. I would like to retain the extreme handling ability, but make it a little more stable. Going to move wings back a bit, increase width of horiz stabs and modify vert stab so it's a little taller. May move it forward a bit and give it a rigid, static leading edge. Working on it right now. Will keep posted on how it flies.
