love the sock idea!!

tho i'm at a lost as to how you do the nose as the sock crunches up into a tight tube leaving a nip of nose sticking out.

heres the UK supplier

under hi-tec mat

but the numbers are lost on me.
surely diameter and width are the same thing?
unless diameter is when it's round, width is pulled flat.
max dia 18mm isn't a big fuz.

Looks like it's only big enough for spar making. Had a quick look on the net - this company seems to sell the sizes required. Dont know if they ship small amounts to the UK though.

Thanks Brian, if my diy attempt doesn't work out I'll be in touch (if I ever get round to trying it)

can lost foam be used to make hollow moulded wings?
i guess most are produced plug style with the glass laid in a nice mould with balsa put in on top and maybe vac bagged or otherwise compressed.

is there any reason you couldn't do it the other way?
stick the balsa to a foam core, either with something just to hold it a bit like copydex, or even epoxy to help the laminate sandwich ( that has spars pre installed, and stuck very well to the balsa skin like you'd find in any hollow moulded wing ) then glass in the normal fashion

once it's done pour in your acetone and pour out the mess.

is there any reason we leave the foam in a wing after glassing?

this would save all the impossible task of making a reverse mould via CNC or which ever method for doing these style wings.

or am i missing something very fundamental here?

imagine being able to get a carbon sock big enough to do that in one go!
