E550 with 15S A123

Some pics of my E550, which i am going to run with a 50 size belt and boom. it will power the 600mm funkey blades

I manage to arrange my A123 cells into packs of 7S and 8S. They fit loosely into the frames but i have to add a M3 washer at the sides for each mounting hole.

I also inverted the "base plate" for more lateral height for my batteries. The landing skid's holes are lengthed by about 1 mm each.

Still in the building process, but i guess these modifications will not affect performances much.

The HV85 has an absolute burn out limit of 50v – make sure that your packs never exceed that. That’s why most run 14s M1 cells and not 15s.

I contacted CC tech support about higher voltages and they said that they could tell if the failure was due to over voltage and the warranty would probably be void.

I just don’t you to go up in flames on the first flight – very nice heli.

Pain? I know pain!
For the whole metal head (which is $260.00!) other than maybe more crash worthy does it fly better or different? I still crash (I suck sometimes!) and wonder if it would be better to have the main grips break or have something down line like the servo's gears break?

I have been running 15s without a problem. The voltage right off the charger is about 50.5V, but in the first few seconds it is under 50V. In any case, I have not had an issue running 15s, with either the Phx HV 85, or with the new SAE 85A controller I have in it now.

I just got the first set of the new lower G10 frames from Andrey, and a new e550 kit. I will be putting these together this morning and will post pics later. Like the eTitan conversion, these frames allow the use of the a123 cells in their "native" side-by-side/tandem configuration, just like they come out of the DeWalt packs. You can fit one 10-cell pack and a 5-cell "A"-shaped pack in front of it, or even two 10-cell packs, which is what I'm running with my AP/AV Raptors.

They should be in tomorrow, Tuesday at the latest. They were shipped Thursday.

I'm also getting the rest of my Z-Power shipment tomorrow, including a bunch of Z50A-800s. They're in Customs now.

Are they any combo deals available for a Z50A-800 and SAE ESC?

Yeah, I'm working on that, but the SAE controllers are alredy going to be pretty affordable, based on everything else out there. In any case, I'm thinking a Z50A and the 12s version will be in the $225-$230 range.
