Strange cars you've owned.
My dad said my Grandfather used to own an unusual car. He just figured out what it was. A 1958 BMW Isetta. Sold it after he put over 12,000 miles on it. Blew a gasket and sold it for $500. Now it's worth nearly $20k. Apparently it was like one of twelve imported to the US. Anybody else had a strange car in the family.
Alaska was admitted to the Union, Jan 3, 1959. Gerald said he had a cousin that had one IN THE '60's

Alaska (IPA: [əˈlæskə]) is a state of the United States of America. Alaska is located in the extreme northwest portion of North America. It is by far the largest U.S. state in area, but one of the least populated. It is the 49th state, having been admitted to the Union on January 3, 1959. The name "Alaska" is most likely derived from the Aleut Alyeska, meaning "great country", "mainland" or "great land".
If I dwell on all the old classics I sold 25 years ago for a couple hundred bucks here and there, I'd kill myself. My Bugeye sprite, sold for $300. Austin Healy 100-4 Lemans- aluminum body, gave away as a basket case. Numerous Triumphs sold because I didn't have room or money to restore them right. 67 Dart GT 383, $600.
I looked on ebay and screamed when I saw a Healy 100 go for $30,000.
Another childhood trauma - my oldest brother sold his 66 Shelby GT350 weeks before I got my drivers licence. Never got to drive it.
I was the not-so-proud owner of a 1984 Renault Turbo Fuego, bought as the 1985s were coming out. My choice was between a SVO Mustang and the Fuego, and I took the Fuego seeing how my brother was going through a European car phase.
Unique and quite advanced for the time. Great seats. Quick -- could walk a buddy's Turbo Daytona. Not very reliable. Extremely poor support from Chrysler after they bought the company. And the Jeep/Eagle mechanics were clueless. Shoulda gone for the SVO
Mazda rotary engine powered mini pickup. Loved that thing, and holy crap could that engine put out! The higher it revved, the harder it pulled. Towed some heavy boats with it too, with nary a complaint. You just had to remember to feed it oil.
1982 Subaru 4WD station wagon with the Volkswagen-looking (4 cyl opposed) engine. Another wonderful car. 30MPG, a jet ski could fit inside (almost), and it was a snow skier’s dream car.
NSU prinz Wierd engine 2 cylender, dynastarter(the starter was the generator), and wierdest of all Pushrod operated overhead camshaft.
The (BMW) Isetta was imported 2 different models the 300 and 600. Both had access to the front via the entire front end being hinged. the 300 while it had 4 wheels, the rear wheels were very close together almost like a 3 wheeler would be. The 600 had a rear seat and a side door for access. it also had wheels in the corners like normal cars.
Then there was the Messerschmidt. A 3 wheeler with an aircraft type hatch for access. It had a 2 cycle engine, but no reverse gear. To backup you stopped the engine, and restarted it running backwards. it could run as fast in reverse as foreward.
