O.S. .61 Piped with new vs. old Macs "quiet/muffled"

I fly a Dirdy Birdi with an O.S. .61 FX and an old Macs muffled pipe, not to be confused with their quiet pipe (the tapered one). It idles great and wide open throttle is excellent. I use an APC 11x8 or 9. If I try to cruise around part throttle I dead stick about 90+% of the time. I have 3.5 inch header length. I have a feeling I may want to buy the quiet pipe. I'm thinking either the old pipe may be peaky, or the mixture needed at wide open throttle creates to rich a midrange. Any thoughts or help appreciated. Also I use a Hyde mount and am interested in any noise reduction I may get from the "quiet-pipe". Thanks, Dennis
