Fw-190 D9 out of depron

Well, all started when I saw Hans-Joachimīs P-51D here.. I thought that Mustangs arenīt rare anymore and German iron is undervalued...

Didnīt take much to convince H-J to start making plans for fuselage and he did them in record time. We agreed that I supply plans for the wing.

It took longer than I thought. I had used CAD programs 8 years ago and it was Autocad 3.xx something. DOS operated...

Long story short, after some setbacks and misunderstandings we got fuselage plans and wing plans ready for testing. Horizontal/vertical stab and control surfaces are OTW.

Wing halves are joined by making 2 parts of joiners (in the plans) out of 2mm plywood which are laminated into main spar.

H-J has already begun and he can post pics and preliminary plans for the plane. He also made a wing out of 3mm depron which looks pretty good, but I intend to use the wing I made out with profili. I will make a normal wing first and if the plane is a good flier I will desing another wing which has housing for pneumatic retracts and flaps.

H-J, please post the plans here.

About the wing:

Its NACA 2412 profile and has 2 degrees of washout. 2 carbon tubes hold it together and 6mmdepron spar keeps ribs evenly spaced. 22cm long aileron which is 3 cm off the scale (25 would be scale) because rib spacing. Its easy to correct and I intend to do that but these are preliminary plans and I think 3cm is not much...

Rectangle hole is meant for servo wire , one servo/aileron.
Wing is desingned for 3mm depron skin and 6mm balsa leading edge. You also have to shape the skin after making the wing , because otherwise wing profile will suffer and trailing edge is too thick. It has to be sanded to 2-3mm.
Glassing recommended.

Wingspan 122cm (121.5-122, depends how well you make it)

We had to open the thread because some people wanted us to do that Hans-Joachim let me do the honors

We will keep you posted on advancement and tested and corrected versions of the plans will be updated.

Oh, BTW the wing profile is made by using PROFILI 2 program which I recommend!

Hi Ceeray,

Thatīs a nice start! Here is what weīve done.
48 inc wingspan is a good size for this kind of warbird
and thatīs ~ scale 1/9, so my son can fly our P-51D
and I can try to follow or get away with the Fw-190 DORA.

Iīm going with a simple 2x3mm depron wing construction and
a vertical 6mm depron V-form with a carbon tube glued on.
Iīve used uhu por for the carbon tube this time and it seems
to work well.

For the motor, I tried to get a typhoon 15/10,
but only got an e-flite park 480.

Glueing the parts together, is like an easy puzzle and itīs fun to do it.

Hans-Joachim: Hans, the FW-190-D9 that you and your son is designing and building is just fantastic. Can't wait to see it fly, this will be a good build.
Best of luck.

THX, Adriel and Cecil.

Hansjoerg,
your 802 is looking nice. It will be an interesting build. What size
are your Fw-190īs and whatīs the setup and weight?
.. I love the panel lines, too!

skaterkid65663,
the 3mm skin is missing, thatīs why it looks small in this area.
65 inc is big! What kind of setup do you wana use?

Hansjoerg,

350g is a PERFECT AUW WEIGHT for your 85cm wingspan warbird!
Are you flying indoor, too?

Your Fw-802 will be HOT!
Have enough space between the two props.
