Greg Smith had one up at Chandler Butte a couple of years ago and it was impressive. The carbon finish looked very cool and the wing was very stout. If I remember correctly it made a wicked sound when he rolled it too.

Not one you would want to leave laying around in the sun though.....

Maybe they used a high temp resin/post cure on the Opus or something. I have seen nekid carbon wings get real soft after only a short while.

It looks dehd sehxy though! If you got it flaunt it and all that.

I spend the add $30 (or 40)to get another color on the top.

If Epoxy resin get over 56 deg c (130 F) it can break down.
I never leave black models unprotected in the sun for a longer time, in the air they get some cooling anyway.

Cheers

Thomas

PS.: Andy,
did you use clear tape to hold the wings?

OK a few things to go at here.

This is the 2m Erwin DS from PCM (available from T9 Hobbysport here in the UK).
I bought the model but it is for a review coming soon in RCM&E.

The model does get impressively hot in the direct sunshine but you can get relective covers for the wings in the UK for about 20. Well worth it.

Our winter sunshine should put a nice edge on the epoxy ready for next summer when the temp goes up but with the covers and a little care it shouldn't be a problem. You can pay extra for a top colour but it doesn't look mean and nasty then.

Yes it makes a cool sound when it rolls. The tiny tip ailerons are driven from the main control surface by a small wire. there is no extra servo. This tiny surface has no gap seal and squeals when deflected at speed. The idea of the extra surface is to take the aileron tip to the trailing edge and reduce drag by eliminating the 'extra' vortex.

The wing is held on by clear sellotape 'Diamond' in this photograph. It shears easily as designed if you crash it but the model is difficult to rig in a blustery car park without assistance or without crawling around on the floor.

Carbon tax? Well there is a lot in there. not much else to be honest neither!
It is of course not the only full carbon model - it's just that here you can see it!
