Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70

What do you guys think. It looks like a winner here on 5-6S. If it flies anything like the little reactor, this should be another hit for GP. It has almost as much wing area as the inspire, and it looks like it'll 3D even better with the shorter tail moment. I was told that its little brother is practically coupling free, and I hope this one would be too.

Here's the linky from Tower: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXMUX7&P=ML

SPECS: Wingspan: 54" (1370mm)
Wing Area: 702 sq in (45.3 sq dm)
Weight: 85-90 oz (2400-2550g)
Wing Loading: 17.5 - 19 oz/sq ft (56 g/sq dm)
Length: 57" (1450mm)

Anybody interested?

Josh,

I would agree with you that if you can get this plane to come in at or around 90oz. that it would fly great on 5s power. The "little" Reactor is a terrific flyer which I am sure will fit quite well in the 3s market place. It will be interesting to see if the stock landing gear will be able to accomadate a 15"-16" prop without modifications.

Who ever told you this was correct. There is very little coupling even in high alpha KE.

I think a light high revving motor like a B50 11S+6.7:1 on 5S would be terrific in this plane with something like a 16x8 prop.

Ed,

Great suggestion, how about a non-geared outrunner what would you recommend? I think one of the Hyperion 40 series motors would would nice.

Tim,
I don't have any experience with the Hyperion 40 series, but I'm sure they would be a good option too. Maybe someone who has used one in a similar application can chime in.
A Hacker A50 12S on 5S would also be nice and light. Moving up a bit in power and weight, 6S combos could be an AXI 4130/16 or a Hacker A50 16S.

Tim,

This will be a good motor on 5 or 6S from what I've read on the thread
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=564684

It'll be 3-4 oz lighter than the Axi 4130/16 and seem to be a good match for this airframe.

Tim,
This is very tempting because with 700 squares, even it if comes at 6.5 lbs, it'll still be competitive with the Fliton Extra 330 or Inspire 60... not too mention MUCH cheaper .

WOW!! the pricing on that motor sure is cheap. As to the weight I would agree that 6.5lbs. would make for a nice flying plane.

I have a similar size ,sport plane, but much heavier and less slim (for its for 50 engines), which has been powered by a Kontronik's Fun 500-24 (OR -27 is ok too) with fty matched 4,2 gear box. It has been run with 4s , whatmeter check amd read as:
~60A, 800+ W . With a big prop it has very good overall performance....

Hexatronic

A guy at the field has one in a Sig Something Extra and it does a good job on 6S. The plane was built for glow so no lightening processes used. He uses their ESC also and it seems to work well. It sure makes a good combo for what ever price he paid. I feel kinda stupid on what I paid for my motors!

I've had great service from Hobby Lobby, so I have no regret. Axi is a good motor, and jeti is also a good controller. They're pretty much bullet proof. However, if you're adventurous (which I usually am ), Hextronix is definitely a good option.

I'm definitely going 4020-14 Hyperion, 5S 4200, 15x7...same as on the Inspire 60.
