Automated Draganflyer Drones - Check it out!
This is just too cool and a little scary when you see these things reacting like they've got good sense. Students at MIT have modified some Draganflyers to autonomously takeoff, track a moving target and then land. What's even more impressive is that they have several doing this at once and tracking different targets.

Not all that good for a hobby unless you'r into computer programing, the bird can only do what it's told to do by the computer.Takes the control away from the pilot. Not takeing away from the Dragon-Fly it's a fantastic bird and I guess a lot of fun to fly and do the video it does with the camera on board.Have seen some of you'r videos and they are great along with some of the other guys.Very interesting bird,,Charlie in BC

Did a search on all you'r posts because I was interested and followed some of the threads.Am a little jealous over some of you'r videos, know it's you'r thing and that's great.Would be nice for the computer to control level flight only and leave direction of flight to the pilot. Will still look in on you from time to time so keep up with you'r mods and videos,,there great,,thanks..Charlie in BC

Sky Link,,what brand name is the CCD camera,TNX Freq.,polorization of antenna.Have found on the Vodeo Pod 2.4 gig Cmos camera I use on the BCX the antenna is horizontal and am trying to make a higher gain antenna for the RCVR.Noise is a problem on FM at that Freq.when signal loss is cut due to the rotation of the bird.Maybe a 10db preamp would resolve the problem, don't know till it's tried.I've got one somewhere.Am impressed with you'r video quality that's why I asked. With the BCX you'r limited to fly time on account of the weight, but it's a lot of fun to just to do it.In this hobby you get what you pay for without question, and on the other thread I was going to say but didn't want to get into it,you can't compare apples and oranges. Will be following you'r posts, and the name is Charlie,am on the wifes computer.Again thanks for the video,,Charlie in BC

Charlie, for your camera and rx setup, http://www.microwireless.net/ has an 8 dbi antenna that is a big improvement over the tiny stock antenna for the camera rx. The specs for the antenna are on the site if you look around for them.
I was also thinking about trying the booster antennas that the computer superstores sell for computer wireless access points. Since they are in the same frequency range, and omnidirectional, I was thinking that might be another possibility. Maybe somebody has tried one and could give us a review. |

I have the 8dbi antenna,it came with the camera but is a little hard to keep it horizontal.Have built one of the pic,,but the beam width isn't all that good, someone would have to follow the flight for good reception, but it is high gain. It's made from an MJB coffee can.Hard to find the proper pig-tail SMA connector for it.There are a lot of antennas you can buy or build for 2.4 gigs.I think the front end of the RCVR is week but will figure something out..Charlie in BC

Lois, I don't know what the specific camera is because DFI sells it as their own I assume. Their video transmitter is custom built into the baseplate which also serves as the battery holder and it downlinks to a diversity receiver using two flat patch antennas. Click here to see it all.
