Video looked good chara...

gpw and I have been talking about slope gliding off the levees down here... We're gonna have to stop talking and start building soon before the winter winds leave.

mike, slope gliding is pretty much fun! however, most of the times I'm just too lazy to drive to the next usable slope...
so a motorized option was the way to go for me.

I'm sure you guys are going to make a beautiful one - so don't waste your time pondering ...just build one and go fly! it is FUN!

Only time I have free lately seems to be while I'm waiting for other things to happen at work... Can't build here...

Just gotta hope for more free time while @ home...

Today I've flown the MOSE-01 in calm air.
It flies pretty nice and stable. A bit more fine tuning is still necessery to find the right thrust angle and the best control throws but otherwise it flies great.

It is a cute little flyer. can go slow and reasonably fast as well for a glider type airplane. Loops are no problem. Glide angle and sink rate are pretty good for a foamy. I wonder how it does in thermals... Actually it makes a nice docile trainer I must say.

In fact I like it so much that I'm planing to make a larger version too and document the build process here in that forum. Maybe (hopefully) this will be an inspiration for people who like to build something similar...

Or am I...
Why not make a contest out of it? Longest flight time etc.. now wouldnt that be fun. a $10 plane flying as long as a $300 one.

You got it man! that is the right spirit!!!!

Great idea! I believe this is the greatest challenge for a "serious" foamy designer and would be great fun!

any one else interested in a (motor)glider design competition?

Dont know if you caught my foam bender idea ...

For building fully foiled foam glider wings, I believe the bender would be ideal.

A glider flown in 30 mph winds !!! ???
Yeah right ! Chara is a frustrated Fighter jock :-)

Head south to the Alps for some good slope fun !

sajeev,
somehow this idea fell obviously into hibernation (well it is winter).

but I hope now as more and more glider threads appear in the foamies section, that people jump on the train and we can have a competition or whatever you want to call it.

so ANYONE INTERESTED IN A GLIDER CONTEST????? PLEASE RESPOND HERE!

in the meanwile I am continuing (slowly) with the build of my MoSe-02. will probably start a build thread if I'm happy with the way it flies.

Hi BOP!
yes I did catch your foam bender idea! wow, pretty cool and very sophisticated! I must say that you've got a great engineering mind full of ideas!
unfortunately I have no work shop where I could store all these nifty tools and gadgets . So I restrict myself to a carpet cutter and a hot-glue gun. I used the "spar and shell sandwich" method for the MOSE-02 wing. worked pretty nicely I must say. and strong too.

PS:
I will head to the Alps - but with a full scale glider hopefully. I plan to take glider lessons in springtime!

cheers

Say hi to the guys in Kufstein for me.

I've never flown there in person but I have done so
in Sailors Of The Sky glider sim !

Still, I have logged 4-5 hrs in a full sized grob 103 with instructor,
and more in old Blanik L13's.

I was hoping that this thread would evolve/ellicite some IDEAS for foamy gliders.
Like, New techniques, radical scale up's using cheapo foamy tech etc .

Gliders seem to attract "Uber tech" and pricey methodologies.
It shouldnt be so expensive.
An S10 is $250,000 or more for cripes sake !!!

I'd love to participate but I have a problem. In the past couple weeks it's gotten to a high of 15 degrees F here. No flying for me. :-( Plus I'm a newb and haven't built a glider yet.
