HAWKER HURRICANE 48"
Hi, I'm wanting to build a Hawker Hurricane with around a 48" WS. Mostly this is due to our fields terrible rut conditions. It would'nt be so bad if we could keep the darn 4 wheelers off of it, but they just love doing donuts on it and tearing it to pieces. I've been searching but just don't seem to come up with anything so if you know of any kits, arfs, arcs or good plans please post them here. One would think there would be so much more on this old War bird but everthing seems to be on the Spitfire. Thanks a bunch, The Vagabond , Jon

There are a couple of big ones out there, 72" types.
I am trying to clear space to start my 40" version from Earl Stahl plans (150%). Once it flies we'll start offering kits. It is a good set of plans if you want to scratch it. If you want to try our prototype parts send me an email, charlie@manzanolaser.com charlie |

There is an excellent plan for a 48" span Hurricane by David Boddington that was distributed as a free plan with Radio Control Scale Aircraft magazine in Jun/Jul 1990. I've got the prototype model here and had it all geared up and ready to go earlier this season as an electric conversion when I had an unfortunate accident taking the model down from the ceiling for it's maiden flight. Disheartened I've since degeared it and hung it back up.
The company selling the Hurricane plan has changed hands a lot of times down the years and the rights to these plans are now apparently owned by http://www.magicalia.com who don't yet appear to have an e-commerce site up and running. If you can get hold of the Pilot kit on Ebay then that is the same size and builds into a very nice representation of the Hurricane. There's a picture of the model in construction below - the meatier, less scale like Hurricane next to it is a 50" span version produced by Bowman Models for a .40cu in engine that's been stripped and is in the process of eventual restoration, but it's a heavy beast and not particularly scale so I may not bother. The Balsacraft Hurricane is a bit smaller, more cartoon scale with a slightly stretched wing and lacks the stringered rear fuselage stucture- these models are excellent flyers though and although the kit has been discontinued, it does occasionally turn up on eBay. Well worth a look. Hope that helps |

Looks like you might be in luck - there's a Pilot Hurricane on eBay right at the moment

Jon,
THANKS!! I used Corel Draw, but, most photo or paint programs will allow you to scale 150%. There are always small discrepancies when doing this, especially since the originals are scanned from magazine pages, which may have errors too. I make a couple of enlarged prints and then piece together just the subassemblies, like the fuse, tail parts, etc. Use a straightedge to align the two parts. Check size of the cut parts against the plan to make sure scaling is close. I can hardly wait to see how this turns out. charlie |

I have an un-started Pilot Hurricane that I acquired from EBay. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to part with it, but do you think this is a feasible electric conversion with some serious lightening?
