It was surprising to be sure, but it was an alternative due to the fact that I used those J Power stock motors for 50 mm edf jets. But I havent got a chance to test long term durability of my set up as my model fell victim to the nose up thrust angle others have mentioned . on a short take off attempt on a bumpy runway I rotated too soon without sufficient air speed to counter the up thrust and did a wing over nose plant. The damage although not total has discouraged me and as of yet I havent done the required repairs. But soon I will.
I also want to try my power plant scheme on the GWS F 15

I like your Russian schemed livery a lot,

Hey everyone. I was thinking of picking this up since it's on sale. I'm tempted to get the version that comes w/ the EDF setup. I know it's probably not as good as some "new" motor combo, but I'm not a speed demon and as long as it flies good on the stock setup, I won't complain. I was thinking of using 4S on this (limiting throttle range to 90%). Will this work, or are the motors going to fry at that voltage? Is 4S even necessary?

Suko, I just picked up a gws15 and was surprised by qc stickers on the ducts saying they'd both been tested at 485 g thrust. I'm going to try them. My stickers had the 3s box checked. I fly my 262 on a 2200 3s. Plenty fast. I'd be surprised if the motors would mind 4s though.

Thanks for the feedback. I almost pulled the trigger on this, the P-40 and the T-6, but then I looked at all the unfinished planes I still have in boxes and heroically decided to go without for now. Maybe I'll have made some space by the time they do their next sale?

Here's the maiden of my 262. Returned on 3 wheels. A little fast for me, but flies great!

a little progress report on my second 55mm mod/build to wake up this thread:
Reduced one of the nacelles to house 55mm edf, by cutting ~5mm slices off from the four sides. Pretty good fit after the nacelle "shrinking". Will do the same with the other nacelle.
Plan to install as taildragger, will see how she handle the takeoff.

nice idea, I am also planning on a superlight build with nice sounding 11-blade 50mm units

btw I would think that the taildragger will suffer even more from the danger of somersaulting with the low thrust line of the nacelles, pushing the nose up - keeping the nose down until there is plenty of speed before getting airborne is what most recommend (I hand-launch, but there is a similar problem at work) my2c

Hi Ed and group,. Well after falling victom to a wing over nose plant due to the nose up thrust on take off issue I've got her all fixed up but as of yet have not flown her. I stuck with the 3 blade fans on The J Power 50 mm edf motors.

Wish you good luck flying her again!
FYI, Nowadays people been running 11 blade fans with those Skyangel 50mm motors, getting a bit more thrust and much better sound. So did you use adaptor to fit the 50mm unit into 64mm nacelle?

I really like how it flys even though I have a slight difference in thrust between the 2 motors and last 2 flights I ran it to LVC and didn't make the runway on landing . So gliding in gently into weeds has always broken something but I keep glueing it back together.

But I think I have the solution. I've made a quicky 262 pylon racer. It has a super tiger 10 on it ,a 40a ESC and on a 1000ma 4s battery it hovers at half throttle. I made a hatch in the fuse for a battery compartment and it's only on a 8 inch slow fly prop. It's auw is only 20 oz so I think this bird will be some fun.
GWS Ray Kelly gave me the idea

I did this prop driven mod so I can fly it at my slope hill and belly land it on grass with out having the big engine naccelles catching the weeds and breaking the wing. And since the battery is almost over the cg I can experiment with alot of larger size batteries for some longer flight times

Oh and no Ed I didn't alter the naccelles. I used the stock GWS 64mm fans . With the Sky Angel 50 mm motors. But to keep the amp draw below 30 amps I removed 3 of the 6 blades

Makes a great looking pylon plane. Like to see a video of it some day. Should reach good speeds.

Hell Yeah it will. Lol

I was anxious to see what it would do so I made it up on my slope hill just before sunset. I have it on a HK 3 axis gyro Rx with the gains turned down and the ailerons responded in reverse. So I switched the switch and then they both moved the same direction cuz I'm on dual wing type. Anyway got it figured out and just turned the gyro function off
I was burning day light. Thought about tossing her on a 3s 1000ma then said what the hay 4s is where the fun is. Checked cg and it was too forward moved the battery back got the balance on the recommended spot went out to the ridge edge and the prevailing afternoon breeze was up to about 5 or 6 mph considered sloping it for a second , then said nah let's do this. Gave it about 30% throttle and right handed it straight away into the breeze. It didn't miss a beat and as if it was a 2 meter motored glider it climbed skyward solidly on wing. A couple of turns later I went to half throttle and climbed verticle it didn't tork roll at the Apex but it did yaw left. It's going to need some tuning tho. I think I'm nose heavy cuz it carries a bit of up trim yet dives in a glide. And at high throttle it climbs steeply. But it was fun and flys decently I landed after 5 min and it was a comfortable landing approach and touch down. I'll try to get some vids soon. All in all its as good as I expected.
