About NZ$500. Doesn't get spent every month, and a lot of it goes on plane stuff... but then, last month I spent most of it on a GY401 and HDS-877, crashed the next day and had to spend a bunch more on parts.

If I start spending a-lot I take it easy on my flying style and don't push too hard. But my last 5 crashes were not due to my flying. Power loss and other issues I'm trying to work out. That's what sucks. I dont mind if I did something stupid but when it wasn't me it starts to get frustrating.

Hello, my spending varies each month . Some months I spend a lot, some months nothing at all. It depends on how the helis are flying, what the "latest" in the hobby is, and how much money I have saved up in "the heli fund."

To leverage my money I sell the older R/C components that I want to replace and then just pay the difference for the new/better item. It sure helps!! When the wallet really starts to hurt is when you decide to add yet ANOTHER heli to the fleet .

Let's see, the TREX SE currently cost around USD $23 each, so that makes my Mars $28.

Mars $28
DX6 $14
JRX2610 $16
GY401 $70
Futaba 2650 $35
3 X HiTec 65MB $60
cc 35A ESC $45
BEC $15
Xtrema charger $100
12 cells M1 batteries $100

So it costed me USD $483.

Remember that a TREX SE cost only $23 nowadays.

Man, what a bunch of useless replies. The guy is not going to tell your wives, so you might as well be honest.

Maybe he's just trying to see what he's in for, before he gets sucked in? Give him a break.

This month was my first month of heli flying.

I bought a E-Sky Honeybee Mk. III RTF for $125
Parts, for an additional $25
E-Sky Lama 3 - $120
Parts for Lama - $31
T-Rex 450 XL CDE kit - $175
Total - $476

... and I'm out of money for a while. It's gonna cost another $400-500 to equip the T-Rex.

In my experience, the way to keep it as cheap as possible while having the most amount of fun is to:

1) Keep the number of birds in your fleet to a minimum. Don't duplicate any categories, as they all need electronics & parts. It really adds up.

2) For helis, if you have a good computer, invest in a graphics card & a sim. You can't seem to crash a heli without having to buy parts. You can't just glue them back together like you do planes.

If I were to start over, knowing what I know now, I'd only have about 4-5 planes, and 3 helis:

1) MPX EasyStar (trainer)
2) MPX AcroMaster (pattern/3D)
3) MPX TwinStar II (general cruiser)
4) EdgeRC Overlord wing (wind warrior, toughy)
5) MPX FunJet (speed demon)

1) E-Sky Lama V3 (can easily fly indoors anywhere, cheap parts)
2) Align T-Rex (Small field flying, large indoor flying, reasonable parts price)
3) Ikarus Eco8 (Larger, can handle some wind, stable)

Spektrum DX7 (when it comes out, DX6 until then)

Even that modest & durable fleet is a budget-crippler.

Next month, I hope to cut my spending in half, as I will likely only be buying parts next month. Maybe a motor for the T-Rex and a bunch more E-Sky parts.

[QUOTE=Jeremy Z]Man, what a bunch of useless replies. The guy is not going to tell your wives, so you might as well be honest.

It realy depends on your flying style. Just learning. Hard 3d. If your doing hard 3d expect to spend a-lot. How good is the person flying. I'm not crazy about crashing so I don't push new stuff too hard. If i'm just crusing do acouple flips and rolls. I wont crash. or atleast not much. Maybe 60. in a month. If I feel confident 100-200. I also try to stock up on parts to lessen my trips tp the LHS

I spent about $1650 on my T-Rex SE setup. Had 4 channel stuff, not good enough so everything is new.

Futaba 9chp tx
Futaba r146 rx

GY-401 with 9650 servo
HS65mg's for cyclic

Neu 1107 Motor
Kontronik Esc

2 TP 2070 mAh xtreme packs
TP 1010c charger with 205 balancer.

So far I have replaced the blades, blade grips, main gears, landing gear, canopy, shafts, tail boom rear stabilizer... jesus I have messed this thing up. Still don't think I am over $100 on parts JUST yet.

100 bucks a month as long as I hit throttle hold in time?

Thats my final answer.

i only own 2 heli....a HornetX3D and my X400 hybrid...using my 6102. i dont spend ANY money on these heli. if i did ill limit myself to small orders every other month.

at the moment, i also have 2 450SE's with top shelf equipment all digital servos, 401's + 9650's, 1107/2Y, etc. 2 9303 TX's...a trex600 that is about to get blinged up the wazzoo and some TPx 6s lipos (that i cant even charge=pwned)lol. none of those are mine nor did i pay for them, in fact im getting paid to build, program, trim/perfect all of them . i get dropshipped new parts all the time so it's like Xmas everyday. that is ideal....meanwhile i get to play with all of it.

Timphan84, when are you going to send me an astro109???? i need it so i can break-in the T600
