Komodo Motors

Looking at powering my new Carbon Kestrel. Saw these motors are recommended on the ACE SIM RC STORE site, but never heard of them. There some posts on them, but mainly about building your own from parts from here:

http://www.komodohobby.com/cgi-bin/show_newproduct.asp

Anyone have any experience with these motors good or bad? Are there any better ones (or similiar quality) for that price or cheaper available? (cheaper is good)

Thanks,

Frank

Don Armstrong and I, independently, tested several off-the-shelf motors and found them to be very good.

I have no experience with the kit versions.

Dr Kiwi,

Thanks for the post. I don't know how I missed that one. Although motors reviewed are not the same as the one I was looking at, it looks like the Komodo line faired pretty well. That's good to know.

BTW, where are they made? USA or abroad. Their web site does not say, or at least I have not seen a "contact us" link on it.

Thanks again,

Frank

I received them from Komodo Hobby in Hong Kong, but I don't know exactly where they are manufactured. I need to get my hands on some of the little 24g guys to see how they match up with the LS and CDR offerings!

Good idea. I hope you do have the chance to one day. It would be a good comparison.

I wound up a 257. Good motor, spoilt by a soft shaft..once tightened down it burrs up and you can't get it out again. So wind once never again

I got about 70% efficiency.

Would certainly buy another one.

I've got seven of em !
Two 283, two 278, two 257 and a spare 283 .

most wound hotter.

I like em !

plus Don Strong gives good service if necessary.

Soft shaft issues can be worked around. I remove the clip
then pressout the shaft carefully. Repolish before reuse.
I dont over tighten them any more :-)

Should be getting mine soon. I'll post results from my "testing" when I can.

I do believe that some of the 2204 series are on their way to me as we speak! Larry Tsang at Komodo is a great guy!

Wonderful! I can't wait to see the results of your testing as I have found your research to be very thorough.

My testing consists of a watt meter and a thrust meter -in ounces of course.
