Cool

···Prop-er's 30" Pond racer (full-fuses)···

I've been working on pond racer plans before, but never got to finish them, since I wanted it to be too large, and too much scale.

When I saw Stringfly's shockflier style Pond Racer it started itching again. Check out these earlier thread's of scratchbuild PR's:

Scott J's fantastic PR build:

Video: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=535588

As of today 've got two whole weeks vacation. Hopefully this will enable me to produce free plans for something flyable.

Material will be 6mm depron or FFF, wingspan 30". Construction will be comparable with Scott J's version. (sanded down depron)

I've chosen two Himodel 282616 1611KV Brushless Outrunners to drive this speed monster. I've got very good results with this very cheap motor in my Duplex Delta. If you mount a APC E 6 x 5,5 prop, current will be 10A. This means you can use two budget and light 10A ESC's, or one 25A ESC.

This morning I've modeled the motor, and the pond racer topview:

Best regards,

Vincent

Modeled the fuses today. At first I'd drawn a fuse out of 4 plates. (rectangular section). I thought it was better to have a polygon section. Less sanding, and easier to get the difficult shape just right. Little bit harder to glue together.

Next up is the cockpit.

All parts modeled. The cockpit top panel will consist of double or even triple plates, since it must be sanded quite heavily to create the desired round shape.

What do you think?

Hi Prop-er,

it looks really great!!! (keep it up!)

one thing that's bothering me, is that with those lovely shapes, isn't it going to be a bit tough to get the two fuselages with exactly the same shape?
How are you planing to cut them?

Good question. The fuses will consist of 8 outer parts. Formers inside will force the fuse to follow the right curves. The formers will have tabs which fit into holes in the fuse shell parts.

Since there's no flat bottom to start with, I will include on the plan a simple support construction which you can fix on your building board.

This way both fuses will have exactly the same shape.

It's coming together nicely. Got the cockpit and the pods parts unrolled and got the pods formers and the firewall finished.

Next up are the cockpit formers, prop spinners and air intakes.
