Opus MC3 & MCT Builds & Mod's

If one was to build an mc-3 opus, what mods would be required to go over 300? I think at least a flap linkage mod,how fast can ya go with the standard flap linkage before they flutter?Aileron's?Tail? My last 1 seemed to get unstable at around 200 or so,,but it was a single carbon opus v-ds,,,,Nick

unstable as Bendy and fluttering or squirley?

if Squirrley its probably because your rates are too high.... i dont think i know anyone who regurally passes 200mph that flys the same rates on the frontside as they do DS'ing... i know for myself i can use my frontside throws up to about 180, then its just TOO much and i have to tone them way down..

I think Joe M told me he flies the same rates all the time... If so, I have NO idea how he was flying that 40" dynamic at 180...

wow I have to go to dual rates at around 125- 150 but the grooves are a little funky sometimes. I had mild flutter (light high pitch buzz) I think on the right flap,,there was about 1/16th of an inch of play in it.then I think a bit of wing warp/flex when I had to pull real hard a couple of times way down at the bottom of the groove,,,,Nick

I wouldnt DS a plane with 1/16" play in a control surface. Thats asking for trouble. Be careful Nick.

how many deg. of deflection are you using at full rates? do you use expo. on any of your controlls? I can't get used to expo. I like dual rates on ail. only/ I like full elevator contrll throws at all times ,,so far,,,,,,,,,Nick

I pretty much use as much control as I can get on all surfaces and I never use expo.

Yeh but,I was disgusted with myself after hitting the guard rail at wilson lake KS. dam dsing , it hit the rail at around 100 and just tore the rear wing mount off! wow what a tough plane,,,so I went to jack cooper's in lucas and we repaired the wing and we were out just trying to blow it up and It held and jack flew it to around 200 that day,,,Itwas later at a hill back here in boulder co. that I got it to flutter and get weird,,,,,,,,But after the guard rail thing I allways want to have an opus,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Nick

That's nutty. I too flip over to low rates at around 135, but we fly grooves
where we've gotta fly within 15-20 feet of the ground much of the time.
