Skybench OLY II

Received my new OLY II from Ray at Skybench last week. Have only had time to peek in the box-looks fantastic! Ray stated when I ordered, this kit had the new updated CAD plans to match all the changes to the fuse and such. Going to get a suitable building board this AM and hope to start making dust this evening while watching the Cowboys beat the Eagles.
Will try and update progress if anyone is interested.

1. A wing that is TONS stronger.
2. A fuse that stays togather and is nearly impossible to build crooked.
3. Rays terriffic personal service. Ask a question - get an answer.
4. Laser cut instead of die crunched parts.
5. Better wingtips.
6. About 35 less parts. ect. ect.
In my opinion it is at least twice as good as the first OLY I built.
Got any more specific questions? Ill be glad to offer explanations.
I now own a two meter Oly, the Oly ll, and the soon to be released Oly lll.
I love them all!

I'm waiting on the OLY III as well! This one will be covered in transparent orange wings and tail feathers with white fuse with RES set up. I am going to order my covering and radio next week so they will be here when I am done framing.

Hope the game didn't spoil the build.

Burger Mike,
You dont understand. I have the Oly lll. Finished building it Friday night. Got a couple of hand tosses in last nite. Im attempting to write the build instructions for the kit for Ray. Thats not as easy as it sounds, but I love a challenge! I will post a picture when I get an OK from Ray. As a side note, I would definitally get in line for a kit, one word........AWSOME!

Alabama OLYmpics

Glad to hear the plans have been updated. That's my only gripe.

Our club built a bunch of OLY2s last spring, and we had an OLY2 day in June 2006.

I've had a great summer flying thermal planes, but building the OLY2 was the highlight. It's good to have flying buddys, friends.

Check out our group shot

Hey Bobby
I was just going off what the Skybench site said(Oct 30). I certainly didn't mean to speek for anyone else.
great photos-don't have any glider folks around here. Maybe I can start a trend.
I don't know what the old plans looked like but I am not too happy with the updated plans. Still kinda confusing on the fuse sheet. The wing sheet is real nice though.
Won't get to glue much today as the babysitter called in sick so I am caring for my 11mo old!

I didnt mean to sound offended if this is the way it came across. I am hyped with the new Oly lll not angry.

I built this one RES. I will get another and build it REAF. I could not find any wood that I would change. I will however cut out those circles in the tail feathers as I made the first one a lot tail heavy. In retrospect I wanted the plane to be " straight out of the box " type build and couldnt possibly know the outcome but wanted to be fair for everyone in the review. Even with the added nose weight I got 105 yards out of a hand throw standing in the end zone and a couple of quick steps and a hard throw slightly up, Leveled her off and slid half way through the other end zone. The only other plane Ive accomplished this with is the Victory RES light and thats a bagged and glass slipper. This girl has a lot of potential. Oh yeah, I did sneak carbon tape in the spars, you wont see it in the pictures but it is there.
PS. Dont tell anyone about the carbon fiber tape thing. Our little secret!
I stand corrected. My son said I ran to about the 15 yard line and landed at the other end of the field for a yeild of 85 yards.

Laid out the fuse parts last night and did a dry run. Discovered a minor flaw. There are two bottom fuse pieces-ply front and balsa rear-each has laser cut slots for the formers. The slot in the balsa piece was about 1/2" too far aft. Not a big deal to fix, but could have been interesting had the former been glued in first. The pieces are beautifully made though. I am using a build thread I found on rcuniverse as a guide as well.

Hmm, sure don't remember anything diecut in an Oly II kit, or for any Airtronics kit for that matter.

5. Better wingtips.
Anyway, glad to see someone reissuing a great design. The original kits set a new production standard when they were made back then.

Mike, good luck on your build!
