Multiplex Fun Jet

Here are some pics of my Fun Jet, just got it sprayed and will start with the build soon. I doubt that I will go with a hot set up but rather something for a good thrust. Set up will be as follows:

Motor: Welgard 35-36-05
ESC: Quark 33A
Prop: APC 8x6
Batt: FP 2,150

I expect the set up to pull about 30A max. More pics on the build coming soon.

The BEST setup IMHO is a MicroDan 2505 Speed motor, this is a 33g outrunner that you can run on 2 cells at 100W all the way up to 6 cells 500watts and anything inbetween for cell count and amps. Just pick your poison on how much weight you want to carry but your sure to be WAY under the OEM advertised of 20+oz.

Heres mine on a "PROTO TYPE " Microdan XHS ducted fan motor, its a 500+watt motor and this video only has a TP2070 3s and a CC45, I used a APC 4.5X4.1 to keep the amps down till I buy something to feed this best, you can hear a slight clipping on FREQUENCY max limits of the CC45, this is a 14 magnet pole motor, :

Heres my build thread:

I plan on going with a MicroDan 2505 motor. What ESC and battery should I use. I have a few 1320, 1500, 2100. Really don't want have to buy more batteries if I don't have to. Would the 1320 or 1500 work and about what flight time should I be looking at.

Not sure of your C rating on your batteries, but pick a watts or amps you want to run on your packs and we can tell you what prop.

I'm going to guess maybe 25-28amps. that way you could run a 1320 with throttle management, or drop in the 2100 for extended flight times.

Idle up!
Yep, picked one of these up last friday.. great plane. Using a Medusa MR-028-032-2800 on a 5.8x5.5 (slightly trimmed), with 30amp esc on TP1320s..

Might try to go 4 cells

Little update.. I tried a 6x4 on the medusa... erm, I am getting around 80mph.. More vertical than you could want. Motor is pretty heavy though.. Just got some 2150mah's today so, should be interesting to see if there is any performance changes. Might pick up one of Graysons motors for $20.00 and give it a whirl on the same plane.

Multiplex Funjet

I tried the Krylon Fusion and it started eating into the test piece. What paint works?

I agree with ATIS on this one. Testors Spray Enamel works well...actually, I haver yet to find a foam that it will eat.

I just painted the canopy on my East Star with Testors with no problems.

Still... it wouldn't hurt to test it on a piece of scrap...

Hello everyone.
I just posted this message on another Funjet thread but since you all were talking set ups I thought I would post it here as well. This is actually my first post on RC Groups. Just ordered a Funjet yesterday from Advantage Hobby for $71.99 with FREE shipping !
I'm getting tired of gluing depron airplanes every other flight (including safe landings, not just the bad ones). Depron is just too fragile.
Last year I got my daughter an Easystar to learn on and we both love it. I painted the entire top of the wing red with 99 cent per can Walmart spray paint with absolutely no ill effect. (that paint will eat pink construction foam, ask me how I know).
For the Funjet I'm planning on using a BP Hobbies 2212-06 2200kv outrunner,6x4 APC prop, 30 Amp speed control, 1500-2100ma lipo, HS-81 servos (I fly full scale and at cruise speed it requires both hands on the stick to overcome aileron stick forces to achieve 90 degree per second roll rate. I want all the servo power available I may need on the Funjet's elevons). What do you guys think of that combo ?

I have had 2 Funjets. A better named plane I don't know. We have a gaggle of them at the local field and have the most fun when flying together.

I am currently flying it with a Mega 1615/4 and a 76 APC prop. Plenty of thrust and plenty fast for me. Could be faster, but, I don't want to buy another motor. I had an EFlite 2700kV in the first. The opinion at the local club is, about a 3000kV motor and a 64 prop is great for all around performance. I am using TP 2600 Xtreme V2's and have great performance.

As for the servo's, I have HS65's in mine and have never thought that I needed more. I would spring for the metal gears though. Don't want to have to dig a servo out of the wing because of broken gears.

On a building note, be ready to move the battery all the way forward for CG with the smaller batteries. Mount the receiver just inside the turtle deck behind the hatch.

I just flew with Doubletap today in Los Angeles. Had the field all to ourselves. I took out my Funjet with a 3s lipo and it (what I thought) "hauled"! Being that I kept my color scheme stock, I kept on losing orientation of that little bugger. It is small and nimble and covers alot of sky. Being that I am a former sloper (rc gliders), I was used to banking and yanking........then Doubletap brought out his Funjet...

his Funjet had a 4s lipo. It screamed across the deck as Dtp was putting it through it's paces. You could tell that the Funjet had a seasoned pilot as it's loops and rolls were large and axial. His plane flew as if it was on rails. The 4s made it very quick!
After seeing his FJ fly, I threw up my plane with its 3s and it just seemed slow. Nevertheless, I still love my FJ! It tracks and it still hauls! Seeing the pictures of other people's planes inspires me to be more creative with my color scheme. I'm going to take off the decals and paint that baby!
