I would like to convert a Goldberg Tiger 2 to electric. Any recomendation based on experience as to an electric motor with equivalent power of a 40 /46 size glow engine. tanz

I don't know how good they are but check out E-flite, since they sell outrunners which are labelled as glow equivalents (15, 25, 46, 60 etc).

Hobby Lobby suggests Axi equivalents to glow as well - but I must say they use a pretty wimpy .40 for comparison in their ads! My MVVS .15 is rated at 0.7 bhp (~510W) and they allow a 0.40 only 300W (versus 423W for their Axi)!

This should work well and save you some cash.

I have this setup, but ran it in a 5lb 3D plane.

Henry,

Post and search in "Glow to Electric Conversions" thread, I know I've seen posts on your plane there.

Cheers,

AXI 4130 is about right.

IIRC on a 14" prop. Its got as much thrust and pitch speed as a sport 40 on a 10x6.

But at 2/3rds the power due to lower RPM.

I'm using an E-Flight 45. Pulls it around very well. The ESC is CC 60. Prop= 13x8E
4C 4000 Kokam(15c) lipo. Ubec for the servos (4)
I really like this set-up.

Hank,

There is a "Glow to Electric Conversions" forum on this site. Ask the moderator to move your post there.

Good flying,

Tim, did you ever post on the specifics of the combo? I've been looking at that dualsky .50 replacement but I can't seem to find any posts about how well it worked. 2dogs has priced that combo very well if you were considering powering a plane with a good 4 stroke engine, so I see it as a viable alternative. Just curious about amp draw, speed, grunt, that sort of stuff. If you can point me to more information I'd be delighted to read up on it. Thanks! N_G
