Aero Soarer -post your mods-

After 10 weeks of seeing other people in rcgroups having fun with this thing and doing my very first post(https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=541490), I have finally got my own and bought two! My 30mah lipo works very well though the pilot needs more flight time. The lipo fits snuggly where the cap use to be. Heres a pic

Sorry, but I don't know.

Anyone tried replacing the RX yet? A 2-channel Koichi RX might work pretty well.

Heres another video:
Aero Soarer with 30mAh lipo (0 min 40 sec)
Flying better due to more flight time. Still doesnt fly straight as rudder stays deflected even when the left/right control button is not used. Might add a small peice of party hat elastic to centre the rudder so it can fly straight.

I used the other wing from the other dissasembled AS to make a AS bipe but just stalls and falls to the floor. I've added more weight to the front to make it glide. At full throttle and auw of 5gm, the plane just glides down even more....had to try!

My next project is a rogallo Ralph Bradley with AS RX....watch this space.

Charle,

how come the extra wing adds 1.5 grams? The whole model itself is just 1 gram?

I see Aero Ace struts between the wings; why not replacing that with thin balsa?

Greets,

What were you referring to, then?

well...I was thinking you were talking about an aero ace, and for some reason calling it an aero soarer, mostly because of the aero-ace top wing on one of the pictures and the fact I know very little about this stuff.

Does that aircraft actually use a capacitor? Thats odd...

The Aero Soarer does, the Aero Ace does not.

Man, if they'd only use a lipo in the Aero Soarer from the start

I'm really not sure what the advantage of the aerosoarer is over a modified aeroace - is it more or less powerful/easy to control/faster? Obviously using a cap it will charge instantly, but I gues it discharges instantly as well

Anyway....I'm happy with my Tx, motors and 160MaH Lipo lying on my shelf while I wait for foam to be delivered

I don't think it's fair to compare the AS with a modded AA. It's worlds apart.
The advantage of the AS is that you can fly it in every average living room. Also, it's got a rudder, although it's not propo... I think flyingwise a modded AA might be better. To me the size and weight appeals more to me of the AS.

Dave,

I had to add some blu-tac/plasticine to the nose so it would gently glide hence the extra weight.

Paul,

Thanks for the tip. I havent given the prop much attention since the first day i got the AS. At the time at full throttle, i was getting about 2.5gm of thrust.
