XtremeLink™ - 2.4GHz for Futaba, JR, and Hitec radios


We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing a new product in the near future that will allow you to upgrade you exiting Futaba, JR, and Hitec radio systems to 2.4GHz.

Our system replaces the existing transmitter RF module and includes a brand new receiver.

This is a professional upgrade, not a park flyer upgrade. Our system offers up to 5 miles of range, no frequency conflicts, the ability to have up to 390,000 people flying at the same time, and gives you the option of having telemetry data.

That is a powerful set of features! Can you share the expected price for a Tx module/Rx set, as well as for extra Rx's?

With a Oct 2006 release, no doubt you have several beta testers using the system. Any chance they can chime in and share their experience with it? It's always beneficial to hear first hand from the regular folks down in the trenches.

For sure, good luck with the product. If it works as good as the feature set sounds, and is affordable, it will be very cool indeed.

Darcy Wingo of Troy Built Models/Composite ARF was there when we maidened the system. He has flown it a few times since. He commented that this was the smoothest radio system he had ever used, and that was with a Hitec Optic 6 transmitter!

MSRP for the "flight pack" will be $179. This includes your choice of transmitter module (JR, Futaba, or Hitec) and one 8 channel receiver. MSRP for the 8 channel receiver will be $99. MSRP for the 10 channel receiver will be $119, and MSRP for the 16 channel receiver will be $149. MSRP for the telemetry system will be $129. Additional sensors will vary in price, depending on what they are. Considering a good 10 channel PCM receiver is right at $200 street price, this system is quite a bargain, besides having its numerous other advantages.

This is great News!

Thank you for bringing out a system that kicks the other current manufacturers' .

I have a few questions though:

How can the output power be adjusted?

Will there be a lighter/smaller reciever for the slim fuselages of light gliders, or will it at least be possible to move the antenna of the current 8CH reciever in a position more parallel to the case, thus requiring less space?

The antenna is tuned to the circuit board. This is how the spherical radiation can be achieved. The antenna is only 1.2" tall, and has to be 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the circuit board.

The weight we have stated right now is the heavy plastic that is used for rapid prototyping. The final weight will be about 2/3rds of the stated weight. You could remove the case if necessary (although the receiver is small as-is) but changing the antenna position will change the range. Basically figure that if you fold the antenna flat (parallel to the circuit board), you will get about 1/3rd the normal range and the RF sphere will no longer be perfectly round. Thinking ahead though, we have made a provision to use a remotely mounted antenna, which has a cable connecting to the receiver and a new base for mounting. I doubt that these will ever be necessary, but we do have the option should the need arise.

Power is adjustable via the programming. There is a push button and multi-colored LED on each receiver and transmitter module. You can program the output power, "bind" the receiver/transmitter, program channel mixing, swapping, fail safe positions, etc.

In fact, I do use the antenna as a Tx stand. It has a nice angle with the 9303.

We can easily support any radio system that has a removable module. We have been getting bombarded with requests from sailplane guys using the Airtronics radios, so we are looking into that.

I am also experimenting with the Airtronics M8/M11 ground radios for our cars, and that works very well.

The Evos have removable modules, however the biggest hurdle will be working out the antenna layout for the 2.4 GHz module...

how will this work with all metal tx's like the micropro? can it be completely enclosed with just the antenna poking through or does the whole back of the module need to be exposed? and what would be the best antenna orientation considering that i normally point the long whip at an angle towards the ground?

do both modules have the same size PCB inside or is one smaller than the other...and can they be used without the case?

Antenna orientation does not matter. I ordered the new JR 10S transmitter (magnesium case) to see if it makes any difference. As long as the antenna can poke out the back, it really should not matter.

We will NOT be making any type of replacement boards for internal RF transmitter configurations. We just don't want the FCC headache necessary for each and every transmitter type.
