I'm gonna go with the 22/20/F5De. Of course he wants to be faster than me so is looking for a 22 motor and using 5-6S.
If he wants to keep it relatively light, the 22/35/1.5SE might be a choice to consider for 5S and 6S. I have the same size 1.5RE and use it on 5S with a Q40 7.4x8.1 prop.
It moves

What do you think Brad, how heavy of a motor do you think can you run, and what size and cell count batts will you be running ?

Any idea of targeted max AUW ?[/QUOTE]

Don't know about auw, this is my first one. I have a 4500 3s from my D40 that I didn't use.... will that work?

As far as bigger motors, remember I said I ordered 2 bare airframes...

As a dirty rule of thumb/general guide:

I see price of 16/X and 22/X as being the same .....given same "ROTOR" length.

______

Using published KV & resistance specs, I don't see a 16/30 outperforming 22/20E at first quick glance.

Guys,

You should be discussing approximate speeds as well.

5S/6S on 16/25 will give you different results compared to 22/50

Thanks Arcteryxxx,
That might be what he's looking for , I think as long as he goes faster than me he'll be happy. LOL.

G.
I am happy with ~140, my friend maybe ~170. I'll check.
How fast can one go on 6S?

Mopar may have had 185 MPH or so on 22/50/1E 6S.

Check with him. Hard to remember so many details.

Aim for higher speed than your friend wants because if he does not do everything perfect he may come up a bit short speed wise.

It takes a great run to reach such high speeds.

A plane good for 185MPH should still reach 170+MPH if you don't start the run as far out.

Cost and labor increases with speed; {ESC specs, airframe mods, motor and battery weights}

He got the EDF a few weeks ago.
I usually give him some time to ponder and tinker, and he lets me know how he is doing or what he is up to.

I havent heard from him yet and I want to give him a little more time before I pester him with our measely little wants and needs

I will put up a post as we progress with the 80mm EDF Custom RC Parts adapter

I will be using the E-Flite 80mm EDF unit with a MEGA 16-45-F5De on 11 cells. It might go to 12 cells, but I am waiting on in flight info before I stick my foot in my mouth (again )
