400 outrunners on wings-UPDATE PICS

Is anyone running outrunner 400's on their wings? I am getting ready to machine some aluminum quick mount motor mounts to use on my microjet and a few other wings as I have a couple of high KV outrunners just sitting here. First test is going to be a JGF 400DH on my Microjet.

pretty simple actually, it's basically an aluminum cylinder that the outruner slides into. I designed it with plenty of clearance without taking up a lot of room or being heavy. The idea then is to zip tie the mount to the plane and the outrunner will spin inside it. There will be some cooling slots at least in the rear.

I run a 400T (or F, I forget) Just Go Fly pusher on my Wild Wing. It used to be on my Overlord till I upgraded to a Warp4 4 turn. I used and aluminimum "L" bracket to mount mine and used shoe goop to stick it to the EPP, worked fine.

yeah, I know an "L" bracket will work, but where is the excitement in that?...haha...overkill is always better in my book!

Hi, here's how I mounted a Hacker 2020L with a 8X6 prop to a miniXE. Along the trailing edge are 2 carbon strips 1/2" X 12" to support the motor mount. The fun of the L bracket is not in the build, it's in the flying performance.

I'm old school I guess. I subscribe to the K.I.S.S way of doing things.

400XT ,APC 8X6 TE prop, 3S 800 lipo, works great in a 15.5 oz WildWing.
Nice speed range but this model performs better at the higher speeds.

I suppose it'll be more clear when I post pics of what I'm making...as for the performance, this will perform great and look awesome at the same time.

I'll be looking more for speed with this thing as I am running a 4200KV motor on it...with a much smaller prop.

I put a Esskay 400xt on a Stryker-lite(9.1oz) w/2cell 900mah lipo, 8x6 prop. It will fly at 60% throttle, climb at about 45 degrees and fly on a windy day, to the point of flying backwards. Soon I'll test it on a 3 cell lipo.

Definitely glad to know they work well. I didn't mention but the mount I'm making will sit nicely where stock 400's go on most wings...no modifications. I hope to have it ready and mounted on my microjet this weekend as my current power setup isn't quite enough for my taste...35 amp speed control, MPI cobalt 400, and thunder power 2100 3s. Gonna take a lil testing to get the right prop for this 4200KV 400 outrunner.

ok, I just got my new mounts in and threw one on my Microjet to show what it looks like. I hope to take it out tomorrow to see how she does.

That mount looks clean. What is the weight?

Thanks! I'll put in on a scale tomorrow...one thing is for sure, it's light. To balance with my cobalt 400, I had to run a 2250 3s lipo pushed all the way forward...now I have to run a 1320 3s pushed back! I will also take before and after weights of the entire setup.

Put it on a digital postal scale and it measures in at a half ounce (13 grams). All up weight of the setup pictured came to 14.5 ounces including battery. Gave it a maiden and man this works great. Launches easy under a half throttle and goes straight vert with nothing more than half throttle. Full throttle is a whole other story, and definitely closer to the kind of speed I like!

I have these for sale in the for sale forums, my price is 18 + shipping but for the first 5 who want to try it out, I will do 10 shipped US if you'll report your experience with my mount on your plane.
