whats this about a new foam for the p38? if so, will it be used on all the planes?

The "new foam" so far has only shown up on the horizontal stab of the GWS38. The rest of the foam is tryical of GWS. Not being over there, it looks like the rest of the plane was injection molded and the stab is sort of done in a hot press. The surface is very smooth and hard. If you have sen the wings of a Scorpio, that is what they are like.

I'm about 75% finished on the build. Since I missed the rush to fly "first out of the box" (damn work!) I'm going to complete the build and then do a WBPU/tissue glass job. I'll post it here in the GWS forum area.

Sort of like depron?

Look forward to your results of glassing the 38. I was hoping to do the same but have heard that weight might be an issue even without. I'm still waiting for one to land at a shop near me so all I know is hearsay at the moment.

More like molded depron. See the attached photo.

I have test mounted some TowerPro 2409-12s. With the mount pushed all the way back, I'm getting about 1/4" gap between the front of the cowl and the back of the spinner. It's livable but I need to see if I can do better.

Easy, cut 1/4' off the back of the plastic stick mount, will still be strong enough.

jamesdr, I have the same problem. Up close, the gap looks unnatural. But in the air, you can't tell. And yes, the tail looks like molded depron.

Bthree, good idea! I'll see how I wind up once I switch to BL motors.

If you use the GWS GWEMM28T mount, the 2208 motors with shaft reversed and GWS 9 x 5 Propellers then the gap will be 2.5 mm.

Chris, if you are referring to the BM2410-09Y

Did a complete test run on this motor and a towerpro 25A controller

Results came out exactly per aero-nuts data sheet

EP9070 10.45v @7.5A = 78W Temp 70degC @ 5400rpm
hot but quite flyable

EP1080 10.1v @9.5A = 96W Temp 90degC @4400rpm
clearly too hot and literally smoking

So they are good for about 80watts, smokes at 90watts, and demagnetises at appox 100degC

For Motocalc, I use 1570KV, 1.2A no-load, 0.22 resistance and 2.1 oz. I will be using an 8x4 APCe to start on there. I have the same motor/prop on my GWS Corsair and have not had any problems with heat. I ordered an Eagletree data logger and it will be here this week. I will be able to get some in-flight numbers for that motor next weekend.
