Fiddler's Green Gee Bee R-1 racer

Here are some pics of my Gee Bee R-1 based on the free Fiddler's Green paper model, made from "C" foam and 2mm depron.

Very nice!

Let's get through the typical Q's:
Size?
Weight?
Power?
Plans?
Will you kit?
Did you maiden?
Is there video?

Come on! You can't just taunt us with nice pictures and leave us hanging.

Now on to my question...
Could you give us a little more info on that very interesting landing gear design? Looks like the legs are foam only with kevlar string support? Please tell us more.

Hey fellas, thanks for the compliments!

Here is a link to the thread I started about this model:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=540908

If you read the whole thing you will see that after my horror at the AUW I replaced a lot of the components and was able to reduce the weight quite a bit.

The landing gear is a music wire formed and soldered then sandwiched between pieces of "C" foam and sanded to shape. The rigging thread is actually some really old silk fishing line I took of an old rod and reel, it is quite strong and has nice visibility; I prefer to see the wing wires as part of the aircraft design and it just wouldn't look right without it. I have toyed with the idea of coloring it silver with a sharpie but I'm not sure I want to do that just yet.

Any more questions?

Nice work of art. I caught it from your avatar. Just finished a Herr GeeBee R2 conversion in Scale Electrics. I thought yours was a sheeted Dumas R1 at first. Looks like a well engineered foam build.
