Lapidar Flies

Hi Han, its beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I went early this morning to the runway at the club field and it was a steady wind and sunny. So I charged up and it took off with no UP elevator held in. It climbs well on 12 cells and a 13x10 wooden prop. It was out of trim slightly by a turn to the right and it tried to power stall. So I landed it OK after about 5mins and took an 1/8" off the width of the two new tip panels that are now propped up to 15 degrees. I set the trim a little to the left on ailerons and full down TRIM on elevator for the second flight. There is 7ozs of lead under the nose and this brings the CG to 47%.
The second flight went even better until the sun went in and a black cloud caused a strong wind. It got quite high up and I tried power off and it glided beautifuly. All the controls work well. Then the wind got stronger and it drifted backwards out of the club field and over another. By this time it was up about 7mins and I shut the power off to get it on the glide. I tried power on to fly back up wind but it started porposing a little so I let it glide. It touched down out of sight behind some bushes. So I left my wife holding the TX high in the air and I trogged off across the fields. I searched and suddenly it poured with rain!! So I squelched all the way back to my Fiat PUNTO and sat it out (sodden through to the skin). My wife got soaked too so if her clothes shrink she will charge a new outfit on the modelling expenses!. After 10 mins it was sunny again and my wife told me where she thought it had landed. So I retraced my steps and went a bit further (4yds) and there it WAS all soaked in rain. It had landed flat but in tall grass so you couldn't see it until you were on top of it. NO damage but the front wheel is bent back a bit, cheers Robin
P.S. I think it needs another 1oz of lead at the front to give a CG of 45%.
My wife took some 'in flight' pictures with a film camera so we will see what she got later and I hope I don't get a 'cold in da nose' from the wetting.
