ARF OV-10 for AP/UAV work

I just stumbled upon this nice design. It's very visable, and seems like it would make a great candidate for AP or an UAV. Twin engine, and plenty of room for the gear in the center fuselage, with a nice, unobstructed view forward.

Here's the specs.
Wing span: 48 in / 1220mm
Wing area: 434 sq in / 28 sq dm
Flying weight: 4.4 lb / 2000g
Fuselage length: 50 in / 1270 mm
Engine Required: 2c 0.15 cu in X2 pcs
Radio Required: 4-5channels,7-9 mini servos

Li-Poly : 11.1V 1300-1600mAh x2 pcs
Propeller:8x6 x2pcs
Out runner Brushless Motor : 400T x2 pcs
Speed Control :15 - 20 Amp x2 pcs

In my opinion, it would be too fast and without enough inherent stability. An autopilot could help with the stability problem, but the speed would still be a concern in regard to safety, takeoffs, and landings. Also, a twin motor aircraft is usually more difficult to control than a single motor aircraft. Now, that claim is forever debated by pilots of full size aircraft, but the stats. are revealing. Given the same amount of flight time, you are more likely to die in a light twin than in a single.

a couple things come to mind

1. scale aircraft do NOT make good AP/AV platforms.

2. twin power systems means more vibes to contend with

but it does look like a fun plane and at $129 how can you go wrong!! nice find

Looks like fun but by the time it is loaded with the nessary gear the wing loading would most likley be quite high and this means speed. For AP sloooow is good,(usualy).

Add some length to each wing and make it dihedral and make it a pusher single and walah!

I found a nice, 12 page thread about this plane, complete with build pictures and flight videos. These guys were building them scale, with pneumatic retracts, and judging by the videos, it performs well.

I think this could work!
