Soar Utah Status - from Utah
Hi All,
As many of you know, our club, Intermountain Silent Flyers <http://www.silentflyer.org/>http://www.silentflyer.org) has hosted Soar Utah. We held the first Soar Utah in 1995 and have held the event every other year since then. We have scheduled the event around Labor Day weekend (September 2nd, this year) and have had a formal flying event on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (August 30th - September 2nd). We have had attendees traveling from as far away as Germany to Hawaii, typically having 75-100+ pilots. There are numerous magazine articles, magazine cover photos, and commercial videos of this event thanks to Dave Garwood, Rich Loud, Brian Laird, Carl Maas, Simon Cocker, Paul Naton, Dave Reese, and others. Ten days ago, I made a post detailing the possibility of cancelling the event due to low turnout and asked those planning to attend to let us know their intentions. Since then, we have had a good response and following a planning meeting last night, SOAR UTAH IS ON! For those of you who may not be aware of this event, we take you to three different Utah soaring sites during the four days. On Friday, we will fly on Antelope Island located in the middle Great Salt Lake. The next two days will provide sloping at the world class Point of the Mountain. Finally on Monday, we will make a trek up to the top of 10,500' Francis Peak for some scenic, high altitude soaring. We welcome and can accommodate everything from foamies to 6+meter glass slippers at the Point of the Mountain and suggest planes 4 meters and smaller at Antelope Island and Francis Peak due to the smaller landing zones. The Point can handle the biggest stuff and I heard last night that Gary Brokaw's Austria Elephant will be here again. If you wish to attend and enjoy some great flying, you can contact any of the following people for more details. BTW, the site of the dinner on Saturday is purportedly large enough to fly electrics before dinner and the raffle.
