Is V-tail mix same as elevon mix ?


I read in a sticky message that V-tail mix is not the
same as elevons mix (flying wings).

However my 3-ch Hitec Focus TX has a switch for "V-tail or elevon
mixing". (I ve never used it though, I only have an Easy Star).

However Im confused. Will I be able to fly a flying wing with this
TX ? How's about a V-tail ?

V-tail is different from elevon mix per definition.
Elevon mixes aileron and elevator on an aircraft with two control surfaces as with a flying wing.
Elevator up makes both surfaces go up and Elevator down makes both surfaces go down.
Aileron stick left makes left surface go up and right surface go down (and vice versa).

V-tail mix is used on an aircraft with more control surfaces.
It mixes rudder and elevator on the two control surfaces in the tail.
Elevator up makes both surfaces go up, elevator down makes both surfaces go down.
Rudder left makes the left surcae go down(left) and the right surface go up(left).
And vice versa for right rudder.
Aileron stick is not involved in this mix, it controls the ailerons only.

What happens when you have a 3ch Tx is that you have elevator on the stick and rudder OR ailerons. Throttle is place separately.
When the left/right function on the stick can either rudder or aileron the mixing button gets named accordingly.
If you have V-tail on your model you cannot control ailerons.
If you have elevons there will never be any rudder anyway.
Definition differs but the practical use will be the same on a 3ch Tx.

You can fly a wing with that require elevon mixing with that Tx.

Thanks I got the difference. Left-right is opposite for the
V-tail, compared to the elevons.

After reading manuals more carefully, I find that there are jumpers
inside the TX to inverse channels 1 and 2. So I suppose if rudder/aileron
channel is inversed (btw rudder and aileron is the same thing in a 3-ch TX,
it only has one stick), a V-tail is possible too. This is why they say
"elevon or V-tail mixing".

Although this is not practically possible, to open the TX every time a V-tail
is used.

Yep, one has to reverse the rudder/aileron channel on the Tx too.
Very cheap and simple Tx mod:
Solder cables from the jumpers inside to a switch on the top of the Tx.
Then you will not have to open it every now and then.
Just make sure the switch is not easily altered by mistake, use a small switch like the one on the switch of a Rx battery harness.
Otherwise will will have regular adrenaline rushes, I guarantee that.

Tampering with things is loads of fun...

On my spectrum Dx6 it has delta mixing (for flying wing) but no elevon mixing. Are they the same?

With both elevon and v-tail mixing, get the elevator to move properly first.
Then work on the turning.
If the surfaces move as they should, good.
If they don't, then swap the servo plugs in the receiver.
This has no effect on the elevator function, but will reverse the turning function.
You don't adjust the surface polarities for turning first. These come naturally after the elevator is working.

You'll only need to use reverse on the tranny to get the elevator to work properly.
Then it's just swapping the plugs for the aileron/rudder.
