Crazy, not stupid
Very interesting but nothing happened for some time there. Promising plans, though.

Trueman, how did you make the wings removable? I really have to find some time to continue my P-51 build but work keeps getting in the way...

Plans for the built up wing...

Any chance for plans for the built up wing... Looking at up scaling the size to a 60" wingspan. Building this one for my Son... I hope to have it completed for when he returns from Afghanistan in December. Looks like he wants retracts too. I will post photos as the build starts and progresses. I looked at several P-51 designs and most did not offer much access to the electrics after being installed. I like the design of the internal structure... Looks like it can stand up to some abuse. It Starts....

11/12/10
Well the build starts.... The ribs for the redesigned wing have been cut out by a Friend on his Phlatprinter. He is working on the mods to the fuselage and it should be ready to start cutting it soon. This is going to be a big plane! The wing will be a foam/balsa hybrid while the fuselage will be foam. The wing and fuselage will be covered with either 2 or 3 MM foam. I will post the photos as I get them... Mudman1959

Update 11/16/10

Got a chance today to start the wing build up... looks real good and once sheeted with the foam it should be really strong. Going to also add a carbon fiber spar for extra strength... Mudman1959

P51D Wing build in progress... 11/18/10

Got a little more accomplished on the first wing half... I am going to leave the bottom un-sheeted for now until I get the electronics installed; servos and retracts. The idea I had with using the balsa leading edge and having the sheeting butt up against it looks great... More to come... Mudman1959

Keeping an eye on your build. Would love to make this one in 60 or even 80" span. Did you just print the plans bigger or ajust them?
