Where is everyone getting their QC830's these days?

After two nice, but short, flights on my new Rare Bear (with the munged canopy), I'm found wanting for more duration. By all estimations, I eeked 5 to 6 minutes out of that Ray-o-Vac 9V NiMH with the help of a few thermals.

Where are y'all getting your lithium ion packs and chargers these days? It appears the original source for the packs and charger (Mark at Hackett's?) has dried up. The web page in the old threads is gone.

As far as I know all known sources have been sold out.

I think a lot of people stocked up on them. Their were rumors circulating about the market stock being depleted. I know I did. Bought 10 packs last month.

I think several folks are looking a potential new batteries to replace the 830's.

We're working on finding a replacement. The 700mah li-poly surplus cells($15) are being tested now. I doubt the output will be as good but they are lighter. They come in a three cell pack from:

I think that the QC830s have all gone to good homes, but there are some alternatives:
QC 1100 Mah batts, @goldmine
Lipoly Ultralifes,
Li-On 18650 cells, 1200MAh,
That's about all i could find. Good luck, though. Tell us if you find anything.

Nikon has a battery for their digital cameras (EN-EL1) that is 7.4v, 700 mah, 41g including the plastic case.... but it isn't the bargain that the surplus qualcomms were (about $50- with charger)
While I haven't tested them, the cameras draw quite a bit of juice when the screen and flash are used; lots more than a cell phone. Other manufacturers sell replacements, too.

Go to e-bay and type in Park Flyer and there is a man by the name of Brad Baigent that has a few qualcom battery and charger combos for anywhere from $18 up.

Joe has more products than listed, he likely has some qualcomm packs and connectors. It doesn't look like he'll have much electric anything, but he's really into gliders and parkflyers. Either call him or E-mail him. He has GWS heat sinks, replacement motors, small parts, servos, etc. Ask if he has any.

The deal at cellam has me interested, I've been thinking about going Li-ion for a while. I've read a lot of posts so am half confused and half dangerous (a little knowledge is a ....etc)

Please can anybody advise me - If I buy the $9.99 battery, is this the two cells that I can use on TM's and Stiks etc and get 20+minutes flight ?

As we have 240volts mains here, I'd get the car charger, is that OK ?

Flyfan, I have the LI's from Hackett, but the Cellam packs look to be the same exact packs. And the charger from hackett has that same computer connection (that had to be removed).

There are two cells inside the plastic housing. It save a lot of weight to remove it. My Tigermoth will fly for 25 to 30 minutes of full throttle flight with the QC 830's.

Actually, they appear to perform MUCH better than the 830s. I was testing last night with my wattmeter. I ran the polys at 2.1 to 3.9 amps for 600mah of discharge. Had to drop to a lower draw for the remaining 100. But I did get 700 out of them at high draw.

The 830s couldn't touch that. When I would go to full throttle the 830s voltage would drop rapidly and the ESC would cut power.

I was driving a speed 400 geared 2.33:1 with a 9x4.7 prop.

I haven't passed final judgement YET, but it sure looks like the poly cells will kick the 830s rump.

BTW, the ultralife 2300 have gone up in price to $19.95. That is still very cheap tho. You can build 3 7.4 volt 700mah packs for $40. That would cost you abour $225.00 at
