Best Motor For The Wemotec HW 609 Fan
Okay guys, I am looking for the best brushless motor for my HW 609 fan. I would like to be able to run 1012 cells, zapped RC 2400's and maybe some 3000 NMHI HV's. The fan will be used in a scratchbuilt F86 Sabre. 37 inch wing and about 3.5 pounds all up weight. Any suggestions?
Thanks for any ideas guys. Joe

Joe, I ran the 1406/2Y in my 609 in a Ky T33 and the first few flights were awesome on 9 cells until it threw a magnet. When it came back from the repair the 1406 was never the same, didn't have the same power. I think the rotor design was the same, it didn't look any different so I don't think the kV changed. Even if it had, I tried the motor on 11 cells and kept getting thermal cutoff, and then went to 10 cells and still was getting thermal cutoff. I think the L260 controller was too conservative with temperature, it's rated for 60 amps but I was only pulling around 50 or so.
So would I recommend an Aveox motor? Hmmm, I guess maybe the new ones are ok, but you'd want to get a 6070 amp controller. Mike's data seems to show that the 50027 on 10 cells might be the best choice, maybe 12 cells if you can stand the heavier wing loading. I have a Fun 40028 and I love it, especially the fact that the controller never cuts the motor, it just gradually spools down until the plane wont stay in the air. No pulsing like with the Aveox. I hope your Sabre flies great. I seem to recall you were working on a glass version? Cool. Hope your fiberglassing experience is better than my first foray. I made my Wattage Sabre into a plug, the second half that I molded came out worse than the first, painted the plug with silver paint and it and the epoxy liked each other too much and stuck like glue.

Motors
Thanks guys for all the responses to my question.
Thanks Mike for the numbers. Ed, the plane was not layed up by me. I am just building it from a short kit. I have a Dragon 55 esc for my 1406/2Y, evreybody that I know that has used an Aveox esc on their 1406/2Y has had thermal shutdown with more than 9 cells. I wonder if the Dragon would be any better? Thanks Again Joe

Joe, I have a Hacker B5012S/609 fan on 10 cells in a Mig 17 and it works great.
I also have a brushed Ultra 9204 with the same setup that works great too, although I wouldn't go out and buy one! Jim Phelps

Thanks Joe

Sabre Fan
I think that this plane is larger than your Mig, Gregg. And the ducting is desighned for the 609. If I could run 700 watts I would be happy!
