Soar Utah!

Rumor has it, the Intermountain Silent Flyers are wavering as to whether to hold the event or not. Please read the below post and send an e-mail if you've been planning on going. Apparently, they need some feed back to be reassured.
For those who haven't been there, this is one of the most worthwhile slope events to attend. For Soar Utah 2000 info, see also

Soar Utah 2002

Dear Soaring Enthusiast:

InterMountain Silent Flyers (IMSF) invites you to participate in the 5th Soar Utah on August 30 - September 2, Labor Day weekend, at the Point of the Mountain slope soaring site, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The unique combination of a premier flying sites and its close proximity to a major metropolitan area, offers you the opportunity for great flying with all the conveniences of home. Pilots are encouraged to bring a variety of aircraft as there will be time slots for vintage scale, modern scale, power slope scale (PSS), and fun flying.

The primary site for Soar Utah 2002 is the Point of the Mountain, one of the best soaring sites in North America. The south side of the Point rises more than 400 feet from the valley floor and levels off to a wide, flat plain on top. The north side is quite different, as it consists of two distinct ridges. The first ridge levels off at 300 feet with a bench that is several hundred feet wide then rises an additional 800 feet to the “rear” hill. We will fly from the Point on Saturday and Sunday.

For many, the highlight of the event is the trip to fly at Francis Peak on Monday morning. At an elevation near 10,000 feet, Francis Peak rises more than a mile above the valley floor offering an unforgettable soaring experience and breath-taking views of the Great Salt Lake and the Salt Lake Valley.

The emphasis of Soar Utah is on flying and having fun. Pre-registration for Soar Utah 2002 is encouraged. Soar Utah is an AMA event and proof of current AMA membership will be required. There is no charge to watch. Food and drinks will be available at the slope on both Saturday and Sunday.
