We are (in) Devo

De-evolution that is, Humanity has reached it's peak and now
the human race is de-evolving back to a more primal form.
The evidence is clear. Although we are in an age of super technology we still have police brutality, religious terrorism,
class bigotry and road rage.
For all our tecno-sophistication we are becoming more like the
monkies chattering for isolation from the other monkies.
We are Devo!

Are we not men?

I don't whether we're actually devolving, or just failing to keep up with the massive increases in technology, coupled with an increasingly overcrowded & over stressed population.

But the net result appears (to me) to agree with that of Travis.

I think it has always been like this. The difference is now you have cable news networks running and competing 24/7 for news nuggets, so everything gets reported.

No, it's an example of "punctuated equilibrium".
In this case however, the "isolated group" that is evolving in a different direction than the norm is in the numerous advanced cultures which keep recessive or non-survivable (in raw nature) characteristics available to the gene pool.

Speaking of Devo, do you know that these guys now write music for Nick at Night? Weird fact but just watch the credits for Rug Rats and some of the others... :-)

Trilobites.......

Did any of you guys catch the late nite PBS show ten years ago called "The 90's"? It had little blurb about Mark Mothersbaugh and his wife and some alternative videos they did together.
It was pretty cool to see someone from DEVO still making music.

Mark Mothersbaugh...

....has done allot of production work. He is a respected producer.

I have not seen the vids but have read about him in Mix Magazine and other music industry mags.

DEVO was ahead of the curve for their time.

Yeah, so whip it!

Travis, I believe you are what they call a Cynic.

The vast majority of Americans are well educated, obey the laws & enjoy the fine arts. All you have seen is the blurbs you catch on the news & you LET yourself be swayed by the views of others instead of weighing the facts for yourself.
Yes, there is & was always, Evil or generally disagreeable people but to take current events & jump to the conclusion that we are De-Evolving is a little far fetched, don't you think?

With respect, I must disagree.

Force should be used only for self defence or the defence of others and never in excess.

Beatings "just because" are never justified.

We call this civility and the rule of law.

Beatings "just because"… I missed my coffee break, "just because" …it was a 1 hour high speed chase, "just because" …beatings are never justified.

Note the emphasis on “beatings” not fending off an attack on ones person. Police beatings are not about self defence or justice and go against the very intent of the rule of law.

What you suggest is a slippery slope indeed.

I, a cynic? I belive that everything is for the best, in this, the best
of all possible worlds.

A cynic is someone who supports police brutality, someone who
is a little more de-evolutionized than his fellows
