Saw this plan and just had to build one. I scaled it down to 80% so it has a wingspan of 28". I'm using a Suppo 2204-14 motor and 10A ESC, with 5g servos. AUW with a 7.4v 300mah lipo is about 4.5 oz.
Still waiting for a perfectly calm day, but I have high hopes.

I think the Hacker A10-9L (www.expressfly.org.uk) or Hyperion Z1705-14 and Z1709-9 (www.robotbirds.com) would all be good choices. I'd probably go with the Hacker.

I got a quick test in a real small hall..... The first time I had a chance to fly indoors!!!

It flew straight and level and was the lightest feeling of flying since I started 2 years ago... I only got to do a couple of 8,a and a few circuits as I left my 2cell packs at home and flew with my 3cell 900

Hopefully I'll get into a bigger hall in a week or two..

Even on a real calm day outside flying is nothing like indoors

Yak 54 building help NEEDED!

You have all done a great job in building the yak 54. Maybe someone can tell me if a full size plan is out here what material and electronics and motor I should order. I would like a little smaller wingspan but if its a slow flyer I guess the wingspan at 32 inches is OK. THANKS RON

I believe Malves posted the full file in post#1. You can build it from depron, epp, or similar foam.

Equipment really depends on weight and what you want the plane to do.

If you want a 5oz floater, go with the 14 gram motors, ie AXi 2203, Hacker A10, Eflite 250, or any of their comps. Castle Creations Phoenix 10 or -Thunderbird 9 (or TB-6), Dymond D47 servos, Spektrum 6100 or Berg 4. (Sub 1 oz batteries too)

If weight isn't as much a concern, go with a 1oz motor, HS-55 servos, 1 oz battery and @ 7-8 oz the YaK is still a great flyer.

Well, here she is, 4.75oz AUW with hs 55s. (cut down to 6g ea.)
Such an easy build compared to the ones I've purchased in the past.

First time using a hobbycity motor:
TB-9 lightened
AR6100 left alone

Way lighter too. Flies like a dream, excellent freestyle plane. Now I "kinda" know what Bert is dealing with.

THANKS Malves!!!

Hey Mickel,

Long time no see, bro. I am glad you like it. The airbrushing came out great, man. It's cool to see ppl are still building this Yak. I haven't built one in almost an year.

BTW, not sure if you already found out, but I moved to helis.
