CC Geni-25 Brushless ESC and Motor Factory Clearance

Has anyone else bought this Castle Creations deal?

I saw this last week and had to order the one 4200 KV and one 5400 KV set. I have been using the 5400 setup w/ 6.6 to 1 gearbox in a 16 oz YAK 54 foamie. More than enough power for anything that this plane/pilot can do. Hovers at less than half throttle. I am almost tempted to buy more at this price.

Yea, there is no warranty given on this deal, but I have owned CC products close to a year with no problems.

BTW, I have no financial interest in Castle Creations, just a satisfied customer.

wOW Thats a pretty good deal. I just ordered a 4200. I have the 3200kv mamba and its a real nice motor. Have you tried to program the controller with the Pheonix link?

I wonder if the controller is an older PH-25.

The ESC is worth more than the combo.

I own 2 CC 18 amp (Thunderbirds), 2 CC 25 amp and 3 generic 18, 20 and 35 amp ESC's.

I guess one of these days I'll get a programming link. I really have not had a need to play with the settings.

Yes it is the older 1.5amp BEC CC25. The link works fine and shows the controller as a CC25. I have 3 sets and flew them indoors all last year. Great combo at a great price.

Do you think anyone of these motors would be a good direct drive motor for a wing?

I really don't think so because you would have to prop down to keep them below 10A and 12A for the 4200 and 5400 respectively. Maybe in a gearbox but probably not.

Could be a good choice for a ducted fan though - Hmmm.... I have 2 GWS EDF75's laying around collecting dust... I wonder if the 4200Kv version would be too hot for those...

bratcher...according to motocalc the 3600 on 3s lipos would work...4200 should be ok on 2s but most likely not 3s. Let me know if you want the actual #'s...I'll be more than happy to email them to you.

bass et al...the most important thing is to keep the motor below 200F (93C)...I have a friend using a 5400 direct drive on a mini flying wing...not sure which prop or battery pack though. I'll have him post his findings for you guys. You can push them a little harder in applications where the motor is getting a lot of ventilation...our recommended current limits are quite conservative. If anyone has any questions I'll be more than happy to answer them for you.

"I passed on the kool-aid"
I bought one a few months back and it has worked very well so far. I have even used the 1.5A models with 4 servos many times over without problems. Not saying I recommend it, but it is possible depending on setup.

Bought one on the last sale, a 5400. Currently running direct drive in a MiniSpeedWing 250. Temps unknown, but not too hot. Using the Geni-25 ESC, 4x2.5 GWS dd prop, and a TP Prolite 2s 1320 pack. Amps are up around 17A at WOT, but I usually fly around at 1/2 to 2/3 throttle and it has great speed. Will get back with temps, better speed estimate as soon as I get them.
