Hi guys, I have heard so many good things about the GWS Tigermoth that I have decided to get one for myself. I am planning to but the Tigermoth 400

And power it with this Rimfire 370 motor that I have laying around

Anyone see any problems with this setup? Also, could someone suggest a prop to use for this setup that is geared for thrust? I have no interest in speed with this plane. Probably will use a 3s batt, btw. Unless someone gives me a great reason not to, haha

One more thing, are there any mods that one is encouraged to do to this plane? I have looked through this thread but wow...so many posts and so many are off topic that it is a little to find what you are looking for.

Although it's not obvious from the title, this thread is actually about the smaller, 'Pico' size Moth. You'll find more info on the 400 on this thread.

I'd say the #1 mod is to upgrade the crappy landing gear that comes on that moth.

That motor might be a tiny bit smaller than I'd go with, but it should work okay for scale flying.

I got another moth. I wanted to bash one into a Swordfish but this one is new in the box. I think it is just too nice to bash so I am to make a second moth to fly.

D, have you considered making a DH71?
I think they're lovely, and it would be an easy kit bash.
You could get wings from a cub (maybe) and use the Moth wings for another project.
Biggest work on this one would be the cowl area of course, the rest is so similar.

I grabbed a TM at the LHS yesterday for $29....Not sure when I'll get to building it...But I don't feel like scratchbuilding.....I might pull a rx from my CX2 Heli I never use. grab the esc out of my Islander.....should be fun

Brushed motor pico

While the brushed motor is kind of obsolete with the availability of cheap brushless motors these days. The motor does fly it fine.
I have a Himax brushless on mine that uses the stock motor stick. And It seems like a small pack lasts forever on it!

Keep it light and you will be amazed how slow and graceful it will fly!

I don't mind the brushed setup. My Islander is brushed 100's and I like it. I have a GWS esc sitting around anyway...gotta figure out battery compartment before I build

If you already have an esc I would go ahead and use it too! If you can get a heat sink and some thermal paste on it you can get a good long life out of it. Doing that I managed 63 hours of flight time on one.
I used and still use 500 to 600 mah lipos.
