Come fly with us in Henryetta
They are calling for 62 here Thursday and 68 Friday. Care to guess what I will be doing?
There are a couple of spots like that there that hold water for a few days after a good rain. I have thought more then one time it would be good for some floats!

All my parts are in-

I just need to purchase glue and a few dubro parts from the 'local' shop and building can commence.

The MAE instructions recomend adding micro beads to to lighten/ flexify the epoxy. what are these and would they be available at a local hobby shop?

Micro beads, or micro balloons, are commonly mixed with glues to add flexibility and bulk for such things as fillets. Any hobby shop worth its salt should carry them. They commonly come in a tall (6"-8"), round (1-1/2" diameter) plastic container that looks like a bottle of glue. Some come in a "tub" like margarine.

You retired twice? Hmmm....once was good enough for me! LOL
We took my Pcar out for a cruise here yesterday. Opened the sun roof and drove over to the beach. Ahhhh, warm sunshine! I had the Porsche all shined up and got out to take a few pictures of it. I heard my wife start laughing hysterically and turned around to see about 12 Pelicans had flown over and I think all of them pooped on my car! So, no pictures. Just a screaming race to the nearest car wash to get the stuff off before it dried.
I hope your cruise was better!

Chompers,
I will have a pic of the microballoon container tonight when I get home. Personally, I would use Gorilla glue instead. If you mix it with a little water, it'll foam up and fill in the gap nicely. Keep it in check with a little tape over the top... I'll have a pic of the Gorilla glue container, and the finished product tonight as well.

What do most people use for lipos in their 'moths? I have a stock IPS, see people have use anywhere from a 300-1200, what would a decent pack be? I was thinking about a 350 thunder power. Would that be adequate?

IMHO, an 800 - 900 2S pack would be sufficient, allowing good flight duration and no real weight penalty. I use 2S 1320's, only because this pack is used on other planes in the fleet.

For all Tiger Moth affictionatos out there, here is a nice video:

Being a heli guy, I started out trying an 800mAh 2s stick pack from my Blade CX-2. It was a little on the heavy side (and long) so I had to cut away the foam at the front of the bulk head of the plane to fit it. I never liked how she flew with those.

Right now she flies great with either a 350mAh 2s pack (Common Sense) or a 450mAh 3s pack. If you upgrade to 3s you will have to upgrade the motor and ESC. I got about 40-50 flights on the stock IPS motor and then did the upgrade to a 12-30-3850 Ammo motor and a Castle 9 ESC. I love having 3s power as it helps me pull out of trouble.

Make sure you wear a mask and have NO airflow in the room when you use them. They are extremely light and aren't good for your lungs. (If you don't use a mask, they have a tendancy of building up around your nostrils, making look like you have a drug habit.)

When you mix them up with the epoxy, you're looking for a consistency around that of mayonaise; a consistancy of peanut-butter is a bit too thick, though it will still work. You may also want to use epoxy that has a longer set time to give you time to mix the MB's into the epoxy. I only put enough to cover the surface of the epoxy (in a small cup; don't do it on a "card") them mix, and repeat until the appropriate consistancy is reached.

Learning to mix micro-balloons into epoxy is a good skill to learn, as the mixture is very "workable" once cured, making for good fillets, repair spots in wood, etc.

Gorrilla glue, as noted above, is also good to know how to use. I'm still not really good with GG, so I sit and babysit it, wiping off any extra as it gushes out, until it stops expanding.

ah thank you for the pics.

I have a bottle of GG in the wood working shop- would be great to be able to use that instead of having to buy more epoxy. my question for you is--- how much would you add to the joint? I know that GG expands(quite a bit) if not compressed, how do you ensure that it doesn't spill out of the seem?

thanks
